DRC issues

Post by Markp » Fri Nov 30, 2018 10:00 pm

Ok, so 9000 miles in and first new set of DRC accumulators due to rattle from the rear. Had exactly the same on my C7RS6 and was hoping Audi had nailed this by now. :(

Oh that's a worry, not many miles either.

On the upside the new set on my 6 gave me 25k of no trouble. The original ones were are problem from the outset - looks like these ones are the same. Perhaps Audi Tetbury are better at fitting them than the factory 😳

Let's hope so. How does the rattle present itself Mark, is it - straight-line, cornering, low or high speed?

You really think that Audi would have this sorted by now.

So there are two potential DRC issues. One is knocking from the dampers over low speed imperfections. That was sorted in my 6 with the revised damper design and does NOT appear to be an issue in the B9 (as it also was in the B8). Next issue is a characteristic rattle from the accumulator at the rear - sounds like a loose tailgate but noise coming from the floor of the boot, once gain worse over road imperfections but at higher speeds and often more noticeable when going downhill. This signifies low pressure (a leak) or knackered valve / accumulator.
I had this too in my 6 and had both valves replaced and system re-pressurised by Tetbury and. my car was perfect until I sold it at 35k.
Neither my 6 or 4 were right from day 1 and I suspect this is an assembly / component issue rather than early failure. As I said, Audi Tetbury seem to build suspension better than the factory. But time will tell.

You need a louder exhaust or stereo and just enjoy driving the car.

Good bass on that, makes even mediocre systems sound great.

New accumulator fitted and knocking at rear gone. Corners better too. Presume low pressure meant DRC wasn’t working as it should.

Knocking in rear is back. Dealer - who is very good - now in touch with Audi Technical to work out why new accumulator / valve only lasted 1000 miles. My money is on a leak somewhere in the system. Car has been with dealer for 3 days :( Upside in they have given me a new diesel A7 - and very nice, and fast, it is too.

I'm on my 3rd RS/DRC car in 10 years and have never had a problem, though I've developed some paranoia from all the threads on this esteemed forum and wonder if I have just been lucky?

Changing the subject, be interested to know how you find the new RS4 compares to the RS6, I'm in a 2017 RS6 PE and love it but it is a big old thing to haul through corners and bring to a halt. Not changing for a year or so but the B9 is on my short list and would be interested to know your thoughts (DRC aside), as i seem to remember you were in a C7 RS6.
