B9 Paddle Shifters

Throwing a query out there re above subject, having "again" seen a review in which B9 (maybe other?) paddle shifters get critiqued for being plastic-y and cheap feel. [Have own B9 on order, and so have some skin in the game with this query - not simply trolling].

I have so far only seen the RS5's paddles and, since they are same, would agree that the paddles are cheap feel in an otherwise superior quality cabin and for such a high grade car.
- Albeit subjective, is there general consensus that they are cheap in the context of RS4?
- Might any forum members know or have heard yet of 'quality' aftermarket paddle sources ie higher spec 'replacement' for B9 paddle shifters - ideally aluminium? Note : Not referring to Aftermarket 'Extension' Paddles

Every review, pretty much every single one, comment on the poor quality of the paddle shifters.
This is done strongest in the Henry Catchpole review where he compares the high quality ciggy lighter cover with the cheapo paddles and points out how Audi should be spending the money on the paddles on an RS, not the ciggy lighter.

They are plastic and yup, they detract from the overall quality of the excellent interior just a little - however I rarely touch the things, maybe for a bit of engine braking on a long hill descent but that's about it. I wondered if the plastic wasn't a penny pinching exercise by cost-accounting but rather safety related, perhaps they are designed to snap off in the event of a hard frontal accident where the steering column collapses - seems possible.

I'd like the R8 paddles but no one can confirm if they fit. OE items work fine BTW.

They suck, I would have prefered metal ones and bigger too.
But to be fair I hardly use them. Box is 99% in auto.

the 2014 R8 had lovely billet aluminium paddles that fitted the RS3
i know as i bought a set to fit to my B8 RS4 but the backing plate was too large so i sold these to Glenn
and he fitted them to his then RS3 so it could be possible that they would fit the B9 RS4 but some on would have to get a set and try to fit them
now if and when i ge a B9 RS4 i will be looking at this or getting a aluminium pads made to replace the standard set i pretty sure the black plastic backs could come off and an aluminium set made to replace them
i would like to see if i could find a capable metal worker to make the pads

I actually quite like the B9 paddles as they're nice and subtle, and easy enough to use

Racingline do a set of Aluminium paddle shifters. Look ok, but most likely a pain to fit as looks like you have to dismantle the Steering Wheel.

Slightly off topic but I think I would drive manual paddles most of the time, if only the HUD had a tacho.

Yes, agreed the HUD would look so much better - would just add to the experience.

Nah. It has 1) speed, 2) gear, 3) oil temperature and the biggest element is 4) a lap timer (the stupid lap timer I call it). Audi should check BMW, they have it sorted.
HUD is configurable in latest Porsches, that's best of course.
I expect Audi will sort this in the facelift coming next year.

Yes, it does project the shift light indicator in the hud.
