Curious exhaust behaviour on start up

So started the RS this morning from cold whilst loading the car with rubbish for the dump.

I noticed that there was only exhaust output from the left side pipe, I put my hand down to the RH side pipe and there was nothing at all. So aside from the valve flaps I can see in the tail pipes - there must be more plumbing further back I guess.

The car has the sports exhaust option.

Is the exhaust behaviour normal?

Doesn't the RS3 do something similar?

In the 3 the left pipe is open at idle and the right one doesn't open until about 4k revs. It's to keep the neighbours happy ish at startup / idling / low speeds. Maybe the 4 is the same?

I cold started my RS5 (sports exhaust) (it's 13@C here) and the exhaust gas is left side only, the valves that are visible are closed both sides.
I only ran the engine for 30 seconds and at idle, I assume right side will open later but I didn't wait because it's tipping it down here so I came back inside.
