I’m deciding between a 2nd hand RS4 B9 with 6k miles and a built S5 Sportback as we know all orders closed for at least another 6 months.
The RS4 works out about an extra £2k deposit and £209 / month more...
People who own or have owned either - is the EO worth it. I currently have an RS3.
Thanks

Re: Help
You want a 2nd hand RS4 as opposed to a new S5!
Logic:
1) You can negotiate the price of the RS4 - such that that the initial brutal depreciation (minimally all the options, VAT of the new car, and the huge 1st road fund licence cost) are gone. Put a cheapo private plate on it and no one knows.
2) An RS4 is special - it isn't just the extra 96PS but another 100Nm of torque. It's also wickedly quick with handling to match. RS4's will always be rare in comparison to S5s which are common.
3) The RS4 has 'character' it's not like many modern Audi vehicles - has the illusive 'smile' every time you hit the starter button.
3) Buy an S5 and once the new car thing has worn off you will wish you had bought the big brother.
Having just bought a used RS4 (two weeks in) what's the spec/mileage of the one you have found?

Re: Help
I'd have really liked a black-pack, I've got a quote to get the front and rear silver bits, side blades wrapped in gloss carbon fibre vinyl, and the grille surround in gloss black of £500 which I'll get done when time permits. There are some good deals to be had, those dealers with used 2018 cars will be getting fidgety over carrying them through Christmas into the New Year - haggle on the price! PM me if you are curious to know what I paid for mine so you have a reference point for negotiation purposes.

How old is the RS3 and is it a Sportback?hyams83 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 7:12 pmI’m deciding between a 2nd hand RS4 B9 with 6k miles and a built S5 Sportback as we know all orders closed for at least another 6 months.

Also asking that question in the RS4 section is probably going to get you an obvious answer but maybe the one you want...

Re: Help
I came from a PFL RS3 and can confirm that the 4 is a much better car. It looks amazing and goes like stink. Bit wide though which took some getting used to. Only downside is lack of noise but most on here think it sounds good. I'd not go for a S5 after owning a RS.

Re: Help
On the subject of width I was amazed to discover that the RS4's overall width (door mirror outer edges) is only 3mm wider than the RSQ3 (though visually it looks like it should be a lot more), though the front track is around 25mm greater on the '4. Parking it in my garage is more difficult as all the extra fancy sensors go into total panic mode if anything gets within about 300mm of the sides of the car.

Re: Help
I've driven an S5, and as good as it is, it's not a scratch on my RS4.
Plus, as said above, you'll always wonder why you didn't buy the RS, especially as the S5 just looks like any other A5 with a few S-Line additions (You might like that though, it's subtle)

Re: Help
After a couple of weeks with the RS4 and having come from another very rapid (in a straight line) RS product, the B9 RS4 is an amazing tool cross-country, the huge 275/30 tyres on 9J rims under those blistered arches+Sportdiff+lowered suspension and in my case DRC mean that most corners can be taken with out even touching the brakes - the sensation of simply being spat out of corners with 600Nm of shove in the back providing a is really addictive. The S5 is competent for sure but really just a regular A5 Sportback with a big engine - the RS4 gets all the extra bits to make real use of the additional performance and then adds a chunk more torque and power. Its a compelling argument.

Re: Help
Having owned an S5 previously and are now 4k into my RS4 they are night and day apart. Every aspect of performance you want to measure is in a different league. But... how you feel driving it is a whole new level. S5 was a lovely car and I really enjoyed it... the RS4 casts a spell, feels special and makes you 'drive' it inducing spontaneous smiles. Go for it!
