Well, a few months in, the squealing is back. Mostly at low speed braking but annoyingly that is most of my driving.

The car is booked back with Audi whilst I’m overseas in Jan. it’s frustrating but having chatted to a couple of mates , (C63 & 140 M BMW) they both squeal at low speed and accept it. I’m not keen to accept this, it shits me!

Your not driving it hard enough
The squeaking is a factor of slow town driving
The solution is hard braking from 70 to 10 MPH several times in succession this will remove the build up
The problem can be if you dont use the brakes hard periodically the build of pad depositwill be too thick for the hard braking technique to cure the squeak

+1

Squeal is often caused by the pad surfaces becoming 'glazed', if you took one out it would be have a shiny almost ceramic appearance on the friction surface. As Brooner has already suggested repeated hard braking from north of 100Kph will most likely fix it. It's a bit radical but making the discs wet with water and leaving for 24 hours will ensure a nice coat of iron oxide on the rotor faces will chew the friction surfaces of the pad too.

Or, as I posted before, ignore it. If that is your style of driving it will keep coming back. It is a heavy, very fast car, with big brakes.

Thanks all.

I love driving it hard but yeah my work journey is all about traffic . I get a few squirts where possible!

I guess I need to get some longer trips under my belt more often. Hard with kids and weekends etc and the fact I am no where near a 110kmh free way meaning my max speed road is 80kmh..

I’ll get some freeway in this week once I’m back with the car from holiday!

Appreciate the honest and useful feedback.

Cheers

If they are replacing the pads and disks i would recommend bedding them in correctly
With the following method which i have used over the years this should prevent the squeak coming back

On a clear stretch of road at 60 to 70 mph break hard to 10 mph trying not to activate the abs system
Then excelerate back to 60 to 70 mph and repeat the braking as above 8 to 10 times
The do not stop continue on trying not to use you brakes or stop until the brakes have cooled

A good result getting them replacing the disks and pads
I have not had the opportunity to carry out the above but I drove it home from work today like a man possessed braking hard but not too hard and not a squeal over 10km.
I think it does need to be driven hard but yeah will run through what you suggested when I’m back Oz as I got to USA shortly (land of no B9 RS4 😂)

Thanks

My car is currently with the local dealers for the brakes as i have just got fed up with them. Doing the hard braking thing, whilst it works, i don't think we should be needing to do this. Its a joke. So they have had my car for 2 days now and they have said they are awaiting for Audi to advise on what the next course of action is.

Has anyone replaced their pads with none OE pads and cured the problem? if so what are the options out there?

The least they can do is offer you 50% off your next set of discs/pads if you have to continue braking hard to cure it.

I would be really interested in how you get on... I agree it shouldn’t be needed.

From experience I've found that EBC Redstuff pads don't squeak - I don't have squeal issues at 9,000 miles but I'm swapping to Redstuff pads anyway - minimal dust and disk wear together with better than OEM performance are the attractions. I have a set front and back sitting on my Study floor that will be fitted next Monday morning.

Part numbers here:

Front
DP32277C (Redstuff)
Rear
DP32254C (Redstuff)

I doubt Audi would pay for non OEM pads though....

Had a quick look at the technical service manuals on ERWIN and couldn't see anything specific for the Squealing issues, hence i suppose either people have accepted it or Audi are turning a blind eye to it.

I mentioned to the service adviser that other people on various forums are reporting it, and he is aware of the RS brakes plague, so waiting to hear from Audi i guess.

Ok so they called this morning and Audi HQ have advise that no replacement is forthcoming.

instead they are going to deglaze the pads and apply some "new lithium ion grease" to the backing plate. Sounds like a load of b***ocks to me, but going straight back to them if it doesn't solve it.

Dont waste your time imho as Audi RS brakes have been squeeling like a pig since time began. Just change the pads and / or discs and be done with it.

TX.

TX is absolutely correct - I recall reading a Clarkson review of a TTRS which he loved aside from the squeaky brakes. When I was running the previous RSQ3 with the big wavy discs and 8 pot calipers brake squeal was a known issue and Audi suggested the same fix you are going to get done for those affected. It works for a bit and then returns. To be fair in the 27,000 miles I did on the stock pads as they wore out the very expensive discs I never had a squeal issue, but drive it where braking was left late and that pedal was properly pressed hard. When I changed the discs EBC Redstuffs went in and they definitely didn't squeak - there was another member of a Q3 forum who had the brake squeal issue - Audi fitted revised pads and calipers and still didn't fix it. He put EBCs in and fixed it (I think his dealer paid too - maybe a goodwill gesture).
