I’m guessing the ceramics on those types of car may be more ‘race’ focused, so less usable on the road, or other reasons?

I’m now on 400mm steels I miss the ceramics to the point I’m looking for some more

Andy, when you say ‘looked after’, what exactly do you mean?

As in if you spend a lot of time on track it will take it toll

Ah I see, I may do a couple of trackdays a year, if that, so certainly won’t be abused!

Had mine 4 years covered 30 k in my time with 80k on clock I did a few track days spa & ring twice
Looked like new when I swapped the car
I’d would have them again with out worry

I heard the porsche guys swap them if they do track days as they cost so much to replace if worn or damaged.

They're front only.
They don't squeek, braking is unreal.
Calipers are different, so is the software. (Brakes by itself more from time to time in the rain to keep them dry)
Rears are steel and calipers are also painted grey.
Downside is the high replacing cost. But for the rest... Dang.
The lower weight is a bonus too.
Under what circumstances would they need to be replaced though?

I had ceramics on my last b8, but didn’t spec them on my B9 mainly due to budget
You won’t notice the difference on a day to day basis until you start to push on. They don’t offer any better braking performance on the road as it’s unlikely you’ll get the steels hot enough for them to fade much (the track is a different game), but where you will notice the difference is where the unsprung weight allows the tyre to track bumps and shittier surfaces better and the car feels like it’ll turn in better at higher speeds due to less rotational weight and gyroscopically reduces mass
I had two b8’s and the first was on steels and the second on ceramics, so I had a good comparison
My ceramic shod car got chopped in for my B9 on something like 58k miles, and other than a couple of expensive pad changes, the discs were barely showing any sign of wear
The only thing to be mindful of is the increased chance of damaging them. A stone caught in the caliper can score them or a sloppy wheel change can chip the edges
Iirc, replacement front discs from the dealer were £6,400/pr parts only, and you have to change pads at the same time, so you’d be looking at a £7k+ bill
Had I been feeling as flush as I was when I bought my second b8, I’d have specced them in a heartbeat

Graeme, this is exactly the sort of info I was after. So the pad changes are more expensive than with standard steels?

To give you an idea
I brought pads only for £360 direct from Audi £120 for wear sensor if you need it
Fitted myself

Ask Audi to supply & fit your looking at around £600 mark

Not sure what the steel cost is to compare

Steels around £420 fitted. Life wise, obviously dependent on how they’re used, but how many miles to a set of pads, roughly same as steels?
