S mode vs Dynamic

Post by OU812 » Mon Aug 13, 2018 9:25 am

Loving the car so far - 490miles into my run in and getting to grips with just about everything - even MyAudi App! I’ll do detailed round-up when I get to 1000 but it’s absoluteky magic so far. Now then - I’ve set “*” hotkey up to Drive Select, configured Individual mode to be everything Dynamic. Is there a way to permanently switch “S” gearbox mode on - or how does the car switch to that itself - under what circumstances?

I’m finding to get it activated I actually have to use the Drive Select button itself and “ok” it - when in Dynamic I don’t get exhaust valves open etc. How does all that hang together?

Why not just leave car in dynamic rather than individual all set to dynamic? Every ignition cycle you need to press the * button and get back to dynamic to get "true" dynamic with S gears pre selected. It's an Audi thing.

Sorry - I missed out the “except steering set to comfort” in Individual mode.

Ah ok - so it’s an Audi think, Thanks! I’ll give up then.

First thing I do when ignition is on is switch the car out of dynamic then back again!

If after starting the car you pull the gear lever into sport mode doesn't that make it full dynamic again?

When I do this it goes straight to manual shift mode....

nah, surely not.
pull back once and it goes into D, 2nd time S, 3rd time D, 4th time S etc
manual mode is moving lever to the left.

On the B8 RS4 I was able to change the coding using VCDS, maybe something similar can be done on the new B9?

This is what was available to B8 users, I decided to use value 00 and it has been working fine.

Set Automatic Transmission Start Mode to D or S

(09 - Cent. Elect.) (Security Access - 10) (Adaptation 10)
Channel 64 - Stored Value = 218 = Starting mode is always D

Optional values with what they do; more control is always good!
Channel 64 - New Value = 00; Starting mode is determined by ADS selection at engine shutdown (Comfort and Auto=D, Dynamic=S, Individual=whatever you pick)
Channel 64 - New Value = 03; Starting mode is always S regardless of ADS selection at engine shutdown (opposite of stock)
Channel 64 - New Value = 11; Starting mode is S with all ADS settings at shutdown except Comfort where it's D
Channel 64 - New Value = 19; Starting mode is S with all ADS settings at shutdown except Auto where it's D

Ah OK - didn’t know you could double shuffle the pull back - will try that when I get back to the car park ....thanks!

Do you know what the difference is? My exhaust valves are disconnected so when I start the car it is in dynamic mode but the greabox is in D. I leave it like that until it has warmed up or I need a sharper throttle abs pull on the lever to put it into Sport. I can't tell any difference between that and pressing the drive select button to go all the way round to Dynamic again (this if for a C7 not B9 but I suspect it is the same).

Slightly off topic - is it possible to start the car in quiet mode. Mine always be blares in noisy mode irrespective of what setting I was last in.
Thanks
Mark

Presumably you mean the cold start.
Ask a coder for a "cold start delete". Certainly could be removed on the M3. Though I have not heard of many people doing much coding on the RS4 or 5.
The cold start is usually OK with the standard exhaust but it can be obscenely loud with some aftermarket exhausts hence some people have it deleted it as it's just an emissions thing.

Yes emissions for factory type test approval and not MOT as the MOT requires the car to be at normal operating temperature for the emissions test. So no problem if you map it out. But this would invalidate your warranty as you have effectively remapped the car.
