Exhaust Valves Disabled
Exhaust Valves Disabled
Just unplugged the connectors to the exhaust valves and wow! what a difference it makes. Car should of sounded like it from factory. There is a slight droan at motorway speeds, but I normally have the music on reasonably loud that its barely audible. It can rattle the inside of the car a little if you put your foot down a little bit at under 2000rpm. Thinking about getting one of those miltek (or other brand) boxes that allow you to control the exhaust valves yourself rather than having them permanently open.
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Am I missing something? You can customize the settings, one of them is flaps open.

Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
If you mean on the MMI then they are not always open, they still close at certains revs. Disconnecting them means they are open at all revs all the time and regardless of Drive Select mode.

Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Disconnect the plug from the exhaust valves.
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Should the electrical connector just pull off or is there some sort of catch you need to release as mine won’t budge! Thanks
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Yes there is a little catch to stop it vibrating off. I think someone had a photo of it on here recently, but it might have been in the RS6 forum.
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Magic - thanks
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Its the same type of connectors used on plugs in the engine bay. Have a look at the connectors in there to see how it works.
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
Hi guys, my back right flap makes a rattle noise & open & closes, the other side stays shut. Is this normal? It’s under warranty
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
I have the same issue. I have an appointment with the dealer Monday they said it could be a problem with the electric motor. Right hand side for me as well. Mmh
Re: Exhaust Valves Disabled
The problem with pulling connectors like this is that eventually the plug becomes full of water and dirt if not blanked correctly. The best way to disable the exhaust valve actuators is to unbolt each actuator on the three retaining nuts, lift off, remove the steel coupling spring on each actuator, and then re-install the actuators leaving the connector plugs alone. It's bizarre how this plague of disconnecting the plugs has spread across the forums to achieve the same result as removing the coupling springs!
The drone used to do my head in after a while when I tried this before. I now have Milltek Non-Res. Zero drone in comfort mode, great sound when valves are open.
For buzzing valves when they are closed (or not quite seated!) - I have the full Ross-Tech tool which can perform the Valve Actuator Calibration. This cured the problem for me...
