that's more expensive than new 90% of the time. You can get close on £5k off the price of a new order and a better finance rate. you wont find a car second-hand car with £5k off it even though its done 5 or 6k miles

Have looked at a couple, but basically no contributions or help at all on a used car (obviously) so I’d be left to settle my own neg eq, plus the absolute best APR is approx 6.9-7.1% meaning it works out even more expensive than new.

Initial offer so far has been...

They clear off M3
I put in £2k
£1050 a month...

While it’s a lovely car I’m not sure it’s worth £265 a month more than my M3...
Over how many years is that? 3 or4?

Don’t be fooled by them “clearing” the M3, that negative equity is simply being rolled into the RS4.

Given you are looking at PCP’s I’m guessing you are a normal bloke like the rest of us and not cash rich, so my advice would be to walk away. The RS4 is a residual money pit for guys like us.

Think of it this way, you will be burning/spending the cost of a whole RS3 just to drive a RS4 for a couple of years. At the end you’ll walk away with nothing.

Got the firm figures and it’s worse than I thought..

£2k in
£1126 a month
49 months
5k per year (which is no use whatsoever)
Screen shot said 6.7 apr that can’t be right on a new car is it??

Carbon edition and bespoke colour = expensive car though tbf. Plus a pretty low deposit hurting the monthlies.

And unless you are going to keep it 49 months then hand it back who cares what miles. Trade it in on 48 months (or when ever) removes the mileage issue.

I've never understood why people say this. The cost of the car versus the GFV is what matters. To make a monthly cost lower, all it means is you have to put more deposit down. That doesn't make it better. You are simply robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The figure that matters is the total cost over the term of the agreement, not how much it costs per month.

In this case over 4 years it will cost the OP £57k (so c£15k every year) just to drive an RS4 with nothing to show for it at the end. IMO, that's madness.

It does a matter a bit, bigger deposit = less interest paid.

The OP gives the impression that he thinks the monthlies are high, well they will be as the deposit is low.

No, the monthlies are high because the car cost is high and the GFV is low. If the car was the same price but the GFV was £20k more, then the deposit could still be £2k and the monthlies would be a lot lower. The amount of deposit you put in, is in the grand scheme of things largely irrelevant.

Doodlebug is right about the interest being more with a smaller deposit, but over the term the interest wouldn't impact the monthlies by that much, it would be a couple of k though.

You can get a RS4 much cheaper that that if you opt for sensible spec - that car is very expensive and you are paying for the extra depreciation. Trouble is you won't get your new car for a year or so :(

You can buy cheaper, but the GFV's on the normal RS4 are adjusted accordingly, so the total cost over the terms are similar to the CE.

Here's my post from Nov last year when the GFV's were first announced: viewtopic.php?f=131&t=126850

The GFV's have since been adjusted to circa £1k less in each scenario.

Whichever model you choose and whichever way the figures are spun, the total cost over the term is very large with nothing to show for at the end.

Sadly its the same for all high performance Audi's. The Audi S/RS brands have gone the same way as BMW M cars when it comes to residual values.

Cars are expensive that will never change, what will change is how long you have on this earth. If you can afford it and want it just buy it. If you want you’re money to work for you don’t put it in a car.

Buy it at the end and you will have something to show for your money.

I agree with that in essence, but over the past 2 years Audi RS models have also got significantly more expensive, and GFV's have reduced. That is what in reality has changed. Due to these two fundamental changes a B9 RS4 now costs a minimum of £10k extra over exactly the same term than an equivalent B8 RS4 did. That's all before you even start looking at how the discounts available on a B8 make that £10k cost double on a B9.

I don't think anybody thinks a car will earn them money, but for each person there does comes a point where enough is enough, and for me (even though I could afford a B9 if I wanted), I think it's madness to spend £40k just to drive a car for a few years with nothing to show for it at the end. Sure there are people who can afford to lose such money but they are no longer your average punter.

PCP's used to be a tool for consumers to finance the depreciation and have a bit of equity to roll into a new car which in turn keeps people in a brand, sadly it's now a tool to completely lock people into the brand. Personally I think PCP's need to be investigated and clear regulations set. Heck, even on this thread people have been suggesting 'monthlies', when in reality they mean absolutely nothing in the totality of a PCP deal. The market/costs have changed, but the financial product is still being sold as the same, that's morally wrong IMO.
