Noise?
Are you guys happy with it? I've come from a RS3 so perhaps I've been too used to a really noisy car but for me it's so quiet which to me is weird as RS should be nuts. I'm wondering if mine is broken though as I was on a stand at the w/end with a B9 S5 and I swear it was louder than the RS4!

Re: Noise?
Noise in dynamic mode is OK for me, wouldn't want it any louder. I came from a Nissan GT-R which was alot louder in the cabin. In the RS4 I at least can have normal conversations again

Re: Noise?
Noise is great in dynamic.
There is an RS3 near me which is very noisy. Hearing it once sounds good, but repeatedly in town gets a bit wearing and makes him look like a tosser. Nothing worse than a RS driver trying too hard.
Loud exhausts for open roads in my book - switch to comfort in town so you don't look a knob

Re: Noise?
I'm pretty happy with it - only done 1000 miles and it seems like it is bedding in a bit. I went for the Sports Exhaust, and thought it would be more "LOUD NOISES" than it has turned out to be. That said, in Dynamic it sounds good in the cabin - sophisticated at first and then yowling, as opposed to the V8's impression of apocalyptic thunder. I'd be interested in some mods to the existing system to free up just a touch more sound, instead of going for a whole new system when they become available.
I've read elsewhere that the RS4 uses a Soundaktor (vibrating puck) to generate cabin noise, but if it does it is fairly mild compared with the likes of those used with VAG's EA888 engines. It maybe adds some bass into the mix, but the noise seems to me like a natural blend of exhaust from the back, and engine/turbo whine from the front.
Controversial statement, but I think that the TT V6 (and accompanying soundtrack) suits the car far better. Perhaps I'm trying to quell my own mourning of the pending extinction of big capacity NA engines, but to me RS Audis are about Quattro traction, understated looks, and turbos.

Re: Noise?
I rather suspect that the RS4 has got a Soundaktor device for the interior - looking at the options to change it with my OBD11 device there are settings 10-100% in increments of 10 so one could tweak it a bit...pointless though, not a fan of anything fake...I can feel the minimum 10% setting coming on...

Re: Noise?
I've found auto, with sports 'box or manual to be the most 'natural' sound. That probably has exhaust valves open and soundaktor down, compared with dynamic.RS4John wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:05 pmI rather suspect that the RS4 has got a Soundaktor device for the interior - looking at the options to change it with my OBD11 device there are settings 10-100% in increments of 10 so one could tweak it a bit...pointless though, not a fan of anything fake...I can feel the minimum 10% setting coming on...
I need to have a better look, but I did see something just under the cover in the boot and apparently attached to the chassis (I was in a rush at the time trying to locate the locking nut), but it was wired and shrouded in black plastic. I wonder if the soundaktor is actually rear mounted. It was mounted at the base of the windscreen in my Golf R.
Re: Noise?
Here’s a tip, take your car to get dyno’d. The nice hard thrashing helps to bed in the exhaust which really improved the noise.
And if you’re in the UK visit PCW exhaust mods and ask him to make it a touch or tons louder, and Paul will sort it. I had it only a “touch” louder as I went super loud at first and there was a drone at 2000 rpm. But it did sound epic the rest of the time.

Re: Noise?
Yes, no need for more noise for me.
The exhaust did open up after around 5k km.
Perfect with flaps open and still a bit civilised when closed.

Re: Noise?
I have the Milltek cat-back system going on tomorrow, will report back.
A bit of a snap decision - could be an error, could be good!

Re: Noise?
Let us know how the build quality is. Rumour has it that they went really down hill about 12 months ago.
Re: Noise?
Just picked mine from Newbury Audi, hopping straight out of an RSQ3 into the RS4 I'd say the exhaust is quieter, maybe a deeper tone though. Tinkered with Drive Select and put the exhaust into Dynamic mode and drove back up to Warwick with it in that setting (something that would have been wearing on the ears in the RSQ3).

Re: Noise?
The valves close below 2k RPM, which makes cruising pretty quiet. Quite handy!RS4John wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:37 pmJust picked mine from Newbury Audi, hopping straight out of an RSQ3 into the RS4 I'd say the exhaust is quieter, maybe a deeper tone though. Re: Noise?
Milltek non-res system on today and just some initial thoughts. I now feel that this is how the car should have been from factory. Each to their own, but it has transformed the feel of the car for me.
Comfort and Auto are the same as before whilst pottering around, but foot down in Auto or select Dynamic and the noise level and quality is night and day different. No detectable drone in 7th or 8th gear at 70-80mph in any of the modes, unless pressing on in dynamic.
I compared the stock sport exhaust with the Milltek one and the welds are pretty much of the same standard. The back boxes are obviously very different and fitment is spot on. I have the cerakote black tips, which pretty much look as standard.
I went through Motorwerks in Aberdeen, who were A+ all round.

Re: Noise?
May we ask how much? And maybe post a video and some pics?
