First 250 miles
First 250 miles
Thought I'd share a few reflections after 250miles in my new B9 having had a B8 for the last 3 years...
All I can say is WOW... it feels a totally different car. Lighter, more agile, better chassis, better screwed together... and then there is the power. Still driving a little carefully as everything beds in, it's just insane and much, much more drivable. I rarely used S gearbox mode on the B8 as it held the revs far too high for 'normal fun' driving. However, S in the B9 is perfect. Responsive, changes up and down just when you need it and no more screaming along at 6k revs hoping it will change soon! Can't imagine what it will be like when I can floor it properly
The two areas I was most concerned about was how it sounds, and the suspension / ride quality.
Sound first - this is with sports exhaust. Normal driving, non S mode, in auto it is quieter than the B8 ... but in dynamic then it's amazing. A much tighter, fresher alto sound with subtle pops and gargles - rather than the growl of the V8. Yes, the rumble of the V8 will be missed, but there is something more exciting and urgent about the sound of the B9 that I really like and will probably come to prefer.
Suspension. I spent hours debating on DRC or not. I spec'd my B8 with it... but only used Dynamic to remove tartar on the way to the dentist, and Comfort when taking the cats to the vet... so opted NOT to have it and spend the 2k on other stuff... and have held my breath for the last 4 months during build. I shouldn't have worried. I simply love the way the normally set-up car drives. It's brought back a true sensation of driving. Slightly more pitch into corners, much more feel and playback from the road surface which all improve confidence and knowledge of what it's going to do. In terms of overall ride, it's as near as damn it to Auto on the B8, certainly no way as hard as dynamic, and for me (it's very subjective so many will probably disagree) it hits the sweep spot perfectly and I'm over the moon I didn't opt for DRC.
Overall, I loved my B8, but it just felt like a faster A4 (blindfolded I may have said it was a S4)... but the B9 makes me feel as if I have a real sports car, the wow factor and truly deserves an RS badge.
Happy driving all

Re: First 250 miles
Brilliant review - thanks for taking the time! I’m even more excited about Tuesday now. I had to opt for tow bar for my bike rack so DRC not an option - glad to hear you rate it in standard anyway. Enjoy the “run-in”

Re: First 250 miles
I agree. Just one word of caution. If prospective buyers have not tried DRC in the B9 then they should before deciding. It is not the same as the B8 in terms of handling and ride quality - it is much bettter.
Standard suspension is good on the B9 but I found it too jiggly at lower speeds (under 50) on poor roads around me so went for DRC which is perfect in Auto. Each to their own, just try both if you can.

Re: First 250 miles
Dealer recommended gentle on first 250 allowing brakes, tyres, engine to bed in. Next 250 when warm open out more but avoid max throttle and over 5k revs, then 500+ just enjoy.
I'm sure DRC on B9 is better than the B8. This whole area is such a personal choice, if you can try both if you're still deciding... just be reassured non DRC is still (in my view) fantastic

Re: First 250 miles
In the manual, Audi recommend a 1,000 mile break in. don't exceed 2/3 max revs in first 600 miles, then gradually increase revs and throttle to 1,000 miles.

Re: First 250 miles
Think it's hard to choose a bad colour as they look great in all.
I had Sepang before with the Aluminium lip on front & rear bumper so decided on something different - Grey & black! I think Nardo does need the black pack to contrast it well.

Re: First 250 miles

Re: First 250 miles
Just been to lock up my garage for the night and not been out in the car this weekend, had a double take and had to pinch myself on how lucky I am. Such a brilliant car. Happy driving.

I have done over 400 miles in it this weekend. I have Daytona Pearl grey with the 19" standard wheels, silver interior, main upgrades are privacy glass, sunroof, matrix lights, HUD, heated wheel, tech pack, and its hands down, no contest, undoubtedly the best car i have EVER owned. Its just getting better and better the more i drive it.

I did a fair few hundred miles this weekend also - still not into 4 figures, but the sports exhaust is getting louder!bakerstreet wrote: ↑Sun Jun 24, 2018 8:56 pmI have done over 400 miles in it this weekend. I've the 19's too, and the tyres were up towards 50 degrees yesterday, and very sticky (mine came on the Conti's, which are proving to be ok). You'd have to be doing immoral things to unstick this thing!
