Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it lives up to the reviews.

Yeah I was booked in for a extended test drive (whatever that means ) at Aberdeen Audi but ended up on a course so that scuppered that. Will try again before it arrives but not to bothered really.

I am not worried about the box. I had the same box in my RS6 and was more than happy with it.

Looking forward to it now I must say

I think I understand your comment about reviews. When I see a bunch of reviewers in the south of Spain or France etc, I think I know who has paid for the business class flight down there and back and the hotel. I'm sometimes suspicious that fact might influence the review.
The best way to tell if its right for you is a long test drive.

If you go for a test drive, make sure the engine 'drive select' setting is dynamic.

The fuel consumption is fantastic with the engine in comfort, but that's not why your looking at this car, and the turbo lag in comfort is bad even at high rpm.

Fast (not sure its that fast lol), Comfy, quiet, latest tech, NO understeer, Sounds great, practical, economical (for what it is), great to look at and drive, the list goes on.
In balance
The downside of quiet is sound deadening material is heavy
It is still an under steering chassis. It will under steer (if pushed hard enough of course).
Saying it sounds great is a bit contentious.
Not convinced there is any significant difference in turbo lag between Comfort and Dynamic. It is the setting for both gearbox and engine (you can't adjust engine alone) and after 2000 miles I reckon it is more to do with adjustments to the gearbox and throttle rather than any wildly different engine map. The "lag" you describe being a longer accelerator pedal combined with gearbox less keen to change down - hence the apparent lag at high RPM.

I actually prefer the box for my needs (daily workhorse). And they are trouble free ;)

good to know, thanks.

I used to deal with Chris Davidson but he has moved on. I dealt with Graeme Donald with my S7 and now the RS4. As you know being a repeat customer makes life so much easier as they know you are not a tyre kicker and bed over backwards to take your cash

What's up with the ZF 8 speed tiptronic Graeme?
Obviously you live with yours so have a better perspective.
In theory this should make the ZF even more appealing as a torque converter gearbox offers better refinement (smoother shifts) in traffic and when moving off from stationary.
It's not as quick to shift down or up as the DSG box. You get used to it, but it's still not as good.
I've often bounced it off the limiter where I've hit the up paddle and that delay of half a second or so is the difference between the perfectly timed shift and momentarily hitting the limiter before the shift. It's not that it's bad, as it's comparable to the M and AMG boxes, but still not as good as the DSG box both going up or down.
On the flip side, the low down torque of the new FI engine means you don't need to go down 23 gears every time you want to overtake, so this negates some of the downfalls of the ZF.
As for whether it changes more smoothly in day to day driving, I can't say I ever had a problem with the DSG in D mode
The S mode in the ZF is miles better though if you want to be pushing on a bit, but not having the box sit at 7k rpm everywhere. I appreciate it's a 'learning' box, but my driving's remained the same, and the ZF boxed has learnt it better, if that makes sense

Laggy when pulling away, and just feels syrupy slow when you use the paddles.

I’ve not driven it, but If the RS4 has the same feel that would disappoint.
Quick changes no problem but agree not as good as dsg which I had in the RS3. LC not as good either although not a daily event for most I guess.

This is how I solved the gate remote. It was a stock car without homelink option.
You can reach the buttons without opening the armrest lid.

2.5K miles and I LOVE mine! Its just such a brilliant bit of kit. There are a few things that are annoying such as the convenience key not always working especially when I only had that to get the B+O. The odd kick down gremlin which I can't replicate now. Doesn't sound as good as my B8 but I knew that when I placed an order. All that said the best car I have ever owned and gets a lot of attention.

Interestingly I was stopped by someone who has one on order and they said they are looking at January delivery now and still waiting for a build slot. Maybe popularity is pushing out build times or that their dealer doesn't have any more allocation.

I picked up my car last week and the salesman told me a new order today would not be delivered until Dec/Jan. I pointed out he still had the same showroom car as when I ordered in March but he insisted he was not giving me any BS :biggrin3:
He said it would still be a 2018 car.

I’ve got the 8speed box in a new SQ5, it’s the only thing that lets it down. DSG is so much better to use.

I drove a new SQ5 from my I dealership for a month while I waited for my B9 RS4 to arrive (they traded my B8 so this SQ5 demo car was a stop-gap). Sorry to say you are right - the box in the SQ5 was sloppy - to the extent I was wondering if there was a fault with it. Especially pulling away on light to moderate throttle it almost felt like there was something wrong with the torque converter - like it was slipping or something. I pushed it around a bit a couple of times, and it was very ordinary. That and not being able to get comfortable in the driver’s seat detracted from what was otherwise a very nice car. I’m not sure if it’s the same box in the RS4, but I’m happy to confirm that it is a totally different experience. I’d agree it’s not as seamless and razor-sharp as the twin clutch in the B8, but it’s still very good, aided by shift programming that is far superior to the B8’s.
