Gremlins when kicking down.

Post by cuttsy » Mon May 28, 2018 4:39 pm

So cruising along the motorway and the road opens up, put my foot down (the car is in dynamic not sport) and it kicks down to fourth and then revs to just below the red line and stays there no movement through the gears at all no real feel of power either, I had to use the paddles to get any movement in the gearbox. It's fine accelerating from lower gears upwards, but when kicking down from a high gear it just gets stuck.

Got home turned it off and on again and can't replicate it, I think I need to get it on the motorway and try again kicking down from about 70...early adopter issues I think. A visit to the dealer is coming.

It sounds as if the engine is going into 'paint safe' mode, which restricts the car's speed/performance in order to stop the primer being damaged before the main coat is applied.

The paint jokes keep coming... Did you ever sort out your RS3?

O/t if you hold the paddle first it changes to lowest gear suitable to revs. Imho change gears yourself if sprited driving is required as car won't handle a sudden downchange well if not expecting it eg floor it all of a sudden.

I thought I’d join in to try and keep my spirits up. Cancelled the RS3 as things have sadly got more messy and nasty with my separation. 😞

Really sorry to hear that. Things will sort themselves out fingers crossed for you. You may find yourself back in a 4 rather than a 3.

I agree with this, especially when the gearbox is in comfort (or D when in auto).

update
Now I have had the car for 10 days, I realise the engine has to be in dynamic. Engine in comfort has big turbo lag even when revs are high.
