Test Drive

Post by Brooner » Sat Jan 27, 2018 5:20 pm

Well got a 3 hour dive in Aberdeen Audis first demo car
first impressions are i really do like the styling but as with most RS's they are colour specific and sorry Nardo lovers it's not the colour for the RS4 IMO it masks the aggressiveness of the body

the car driven had the carbon pack not something i would spec but i do like the 20" milled alloys that currently are only available with the this pack
hopefully they will be available later builds with out specing the carbon pack
if not might spec the 19" and get my own 20"s
the interior is a lovely place to be the tech is great but im still unsure about the stuck on screen in the centre of the dash but i did get used to it during the drive
the seats while not as fully supportive as the currant buckets are pretty good the upper side bolsters can be inflated only
and when pushing into the corners i felt planted in the seat no sliding like the old super sport seats
the tyres fitted where contis and i can say on the drive the felt very grippy in damp conditions just a couple of greasy moments but that might be down to they are brand new and need a few miles settle down
the engine while it is no V8 growl has a very pleasing noise when pushing on not sure if this is electronic trickery in the cabin as there were no tunnels to blast though with the windows down
lots of shove form the engine and it does feel quicker and lighter in the corners than the B8 which now feels heavy after the back to back test drive
the suspension which i had in Dynamic the whole time felt firm but not crashy and seemed to be a little bit more refined than the B8 even on the south deeside road which is terrible and the moment with some serious pot holes which i did avoid going into
so for me it is a improvement on the B8 though most will miss the V8 growl
the wheel need some spacing IMO to fill the arch properly but that's an easy fix
the biggest issue for me will be colour as no Sepang Blue or equivalent
toying with Green but need to see it up close
the Navarra Blue looks good with the black pack too
below a very dirty car half way though my drive

And my thoughts from another thread:

Drove one today (my current car is a C7 RS6) at Audi Tetbury. Quick and interesting engine note (it had sports exhaust) - a lovely six pot wail, rather than the hammer / rumble of a V8. Didn't really test the handling much on busy road, but ride was much better than B8 (test car had DRC) and helm nice, albeit a bit Audi "removed". Fit and finish as to be expected. I think tech is messy, couldn't work it out without help which is a bad sign - buttons all over the place. Displays good though. It has spacesaver too instead of crap gunk and compressor.

Looks meatier in the flesh than in photos, but subtler than 6. Don't like 20 inch wheels though - too fussy, and 30 profile too low on 275 tyre on roads around me.
Not convinced enough to place a order so far.

Nice review. I found some of the tech not entirely obvious. I think it will get easier when the screen goes touch next year.

And you're bang on, nardo is a terrible choice - especially with that silver and aluminium 🤮

That’s interesting. Remember the reluctance of many to move B7 to B8 (where all the B8 guys knew the B8 was a step up from the B7).

Sounds like this car has focused more on driving dynamics - probably the main criticism of the B8.

Good reviews, nice to hear people’s opinions.

Wasn't that the Chris Harris review where he basically said the B7 was the best RS car ever and the B8 the worst. I know it heavily influenced me.
I hope he dopes a B9 review but I doubt he does car reviews now he's on TG.

Right sorry guys i contacted Audi Aberdeen for the spec on the car
No DRC no Dynamic Steering anx s sport exhaust
If the above is true
The suspension was a good compromise not too firm not to floaty
The steering felt as firm as mine on dynamic
And the exhaust was ok
So i need another test drive in one that has all the above
Sorry school boy error not asking the spec on the day

I wonder if the DRC is necessary this time?

I guess see if they bring a sport pack out that includes that lot.
