My Leaf has folding mirrors, heated steering wheel and 4 seats, BOSE, surround view camera etc etc. To be fair that is probably to make up for it being one of the ugliest cars on the road

Elec Folding mirrors are standard, the option is Elec Folding with Memory and Dipping.

It’s like when people tick the “Heated front & rear seats” option, I wonder if they realise the heated front seats are standard and all you are adding is heated rears.

Clever/deceptive wording by Audi.

Not that it matters if the Top Gear mag review is anything to go by. It’s damning.

I completely agree with that review after my demo. It's really quite bad even before you let the price into you head.

Great thread guys...

I’m currently RSless and looking for the next
toy. Just can’t see me buying the latest RS4/5
at these mad prices.
Appreciate costs go up but so should the power
too. I was expecting at least 500bhp and a better spec as std.

I'm with you on that...and being RS less at the moment too. I'm fortunate to have access to a couple of other cars just now so am hanging off before making any decisions. (see thread on general car chat for my current thinking).

For me, the biggest issue on the new 4&5 will be residuals. I cant see the 2nd hand market agreeing that these cars were £70k plus from new!

That will only be an issue if there's no discount available. A quick trawl through the RS5 section on Pissed-on-heads sales shows lots of stock 5's available with substantial discounts already. The market has already decided the 4/5 is too expensive. Even the most hardened of supporters here on RS246 have all said it's too expensive. The same was said about the C7 RS6 when it came out, which is why there have been discounts of £10-15k available from day one. I spoke to a dealer over the weekend, and he anticipates 10% being the norm very quickly, he also said he has yet to sell a single RS5 due to the pricing!

The "DFS pricing" model Audi seem to be pushing hard does dictate there will be some losers (early adopters who don't haggle), but if you're smart any buyer should be demanding at least 10% discount from the off, particularly with the ridiculous options list.

I've thought long & hard about the B9, but no matter how I swing it, the car 'needs' certain options, and those options push it to £70k, which IMO is just too much. Even with 10% discount, that price still exceeds what I think is reasonable. The only saving grace will be the RV's, but the RV's I've seen for the 5 means the 4 doesn't look promising either.

What with the poor reviews appearing and high prices, Audi could have set themselves up for a bit of a fall here...

Couldn't agree more. been looking at Porsche just now, and part of the reason the value is retained, is they don't chuck 10's of 000's of discounts at these cars from new. makes for a far better customer proposition.

And your last point, I hope you're not right...but think you may be. has the mid level rs car been killed by the success of the 3 & the 6?

Brochure and options prices

Post by doodlebug » Tue Oct 31, 2017 7:38 pm

Agreed. You’re hard pushed to get a dime off any pork because builds are managed closely. If you want a cooking 911 you’re in for a wait, let alone something more exotic. Upside is that prices hold very well for used examples. Look at the prices of four or five year old cars, they are strong. Audi will never manage this for a number of reasons, partly volume, primarily poor pricing strategy.

Not exactly material though is it! cayster/macan/cayenne more likely to attract a notional contribution.
