I have a 156 GTA which I have had for seven years, totally reliable ,done loads of mods great car !Love the RS4 more !
( I own an ALFA repair garage )the main reason Alfas are unreliable is people dont look after them.

John, mine was reliable but the traction control would turn itself off when it felt like it, the air bag light on the dash would come in as it pleased, the wipers had a mind of their own, the service counter wouldn't reset and the trip computer thought I was driving 1km for every mile so it just showed my mpg as minimum all the time.
It constantly went back to Alfa to fix each of these issues but after a few months the faults would return (or never ever went away).

And the car wasn't very old when they all started.

Oh, and I blew a gearbox up but that was changed under warranty.

My first 4WD car was a 33 P4, great fun even if the gearbox was a bit iffy. All car enthusiasts should own an Alfa at some point in their life and that new one looks to have made a step forward, similar to Jaguar.

B9 RS4 ?

Post by Jay_g » Sat May 21, 2016 3:05 pm

Alfas are meant to be a lot better nowadays, the missus family has abarths/Alfas, most of them have been mapped since new (think the oldest is about 5years old now) and none of them have had any issues. The genera quality is good I find

The new one is supposed to have brake-by-wire, auto adjusting front lip, no manual in the UK is a disappointment, but their dual clutch box is rather good so I've heard.

I'm definitely going to test drive one when its out, the car st Geneva was apparently plagued with quality issues which seriously isn't good. Hopefully the real thing is better

It's not dual clutch, ZF8.

More tech is bad as electronics is where they fail. Brake by wire on an Alfa? Gulp!

I gather Audi are expected to drop the DCT on the B9 RS4. I just watched a review of the B9 S4 and that is a slush box style 8 speed auto only. :boohoo:

This move surprises me as I thought DCT was the future?

The 8 speed slush in the RS6 is a better gearbox than the dct in the RS3 if you ask me.

Can't beat a well done double clutch box. PDK is outstanding, S-Tronic hasn't quite matched it. ZF8 is good but cannot come close on shift speeds, especially dropping several cogs at a time.

No and I thought brooner was addressing Audi as if Audi read this forum (maybe they do?)

I got my info from the internet (not Audi themselves) but as the S4 is slush box (only) then I am tending to believe the RS4 will be the same. I just can't understand why, internet speculation says it is the torque of the new turbo engine but as the R8 V10 plus is DCT (s-tronic) then it must be ok to put RS4 level of torque through a DCT box.

If you want DCT then it has got to be the M3 (I'm not turned on by BMW image) but neither do I want a slush box so it will affect my buying decision.

Did the last S4 have a torque converter box ?

You mean the B8, no, that was manual or DCT s-tronic (wish they would just call it DCT) like RS4

Do B8 RS4 drivers have problems with the DCT box? causing Audi to decide to discontinue it. I don't think so.
