So now that the TTRS has been released, can we expect the RS4 a little bit earlier? They were testing them simultaneously on the Nürburgring, both still camouflaged!!

What does everyone think?!

It sounds horrible!!!

You'll need to turn up the volume and it won't be pleasurable unfortunately. Audi are successfully killing off one of the RS4's greatest attributes. Noise.

It sounds horrific

The B5 could be made to sound OK.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I'm not sure we can judge noise over all that tyre scream, but you're right it doesn't seem to have the V6 noise you'd expect.

My biggest worry though is its looks. I think it's very clear now that there will be no boxed arches, so what I think we'll have is a version of RS6 C7 styling dumbed down for the B9 on an already drab looking car. I've never been a huge fan of the B8 front bumper, but the arches and fat backside make it aggressive from all angles and there's no mistaking it's an RS. I always look back at it when I leave it, it visually makes me smile. This B9 is likely to be like the new C63... hardly distinguishable from its cheaper siblings, which for me loses part of the halo model appeal.

For me the New TTRS is very colour/spec sensitive. Choose the wrong colour/trim and it loses any aggressiveness. This is looking like it might go the same way.

Time will tell.

It's hard to hear anything over the tyre screech but I like the little noise I can hear.
I'd be very surprised if the new 4 doesn't sound very good. Following on from the old. C63 it seems Audi have wised up to the idea that a good exhaust noise will sell cars. The last couple of RS and R have certainly been much better sounding than their predecessors. I think we can nearly all agree that standard RS and R cars have been underwhelming in the noise department but the latest RS3 and and R8 both sound amazing from factory and have the sort of noise that sells cars. I think this is the turning point and all new models will follow suit.
I bet that test mule sounds nothing like the final product.

Got to disagree here mate. The boxed arches were the bastard child of the RS line. I'm so happy they are gone. The C6 RS6 and B8 RS4 as well as RS5 or anything from that generation were the tamest things Audi has ever made. Aesthetically, that is.

Time to go back to the rounded arches that RS cars are known for!! IMO its the right way to go! I mean look at the C7 RS6...That's the aggression we need from Audi.

I am more worried at the tire squeal and heavy lean as well as shove of the car on the ring aka. the typical crazy understeer. I hope that they can somehow improve the car dynamically over everything else they have been making recently (and have been heavily criticised for). So, hopefully engine placement was moved back a little etc.Hate to bring up the new Alfa, as I'm not a fan, but 50:50 weight distribution, a manual, carbon buckets and ceramics all around is definitely something VERY appealing!

Also, I really hope it doesn't sound as rubbish as the Macan Turbo or BMW M4 does...V6s can sound good, but they can also sound rather rubbish. I'm hoping for a sound like the Ghibli / Giulia Quadrifoglio ... probably not going to happen though :audibash:

Oh look this ones got arches and they're a bit boxy aren't they. :bigblink:
Sarcasm to one side I like the box arches on the B8s but they should be a bit more pronounced especially the rear.

I was referring to the Avants. Obviously that car is a whole other story and I can see why they tried to introduce the boxy arches or where they got it from, I just think they don't look as aggressive as they should, just like you said :thumb:

That could just be a tyre company doing testing rather than the Audi itself...driving at 6/10ths with valves closed imho

It will sound great, they all do but I prefer the boxy arches over the C7 RS6's curved ones - both still look menacing!

Anyone put the bite on dealers with a deposit yet..?

My dealer doesn't have any details, so wouldn't take a deposit even if you dropped a suitcase full of £20's to them
The best position I have from them is that they'll call me when they're ready for deposits and get my name down. That could be tomorrow or 2019

I guess, in light of the Porsche fiasco dealers will not take a deposit on something they cannot supply.

Here's how good a V6 can sound: https://youtu.be/yX5tVz1ZKvk
