Hello

Post by linq » Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:35 am

Hi. Just joined the forum having traded in an M3 for a year-old RS4 in Mythos Black. Really enjoying the car - it feels just as quick as the BMW but a lot more refined. I'm sure the four-wheel drive will be welcome in the wet, too. Options on the car included the comfort/sound pack and sports exhaust.
I wonder if somebody can answer a couple of questions for me:
  • Having read other posts, I do agree the sports exhaust doesn't seem to make a huge difference. So far, I've noticed the exhaust only gets a little louder when the transmission is in Sport mode - either from selecting 'dynamic' in drive select or one of the two RS modes. Does that sound correct?
  • Is there a way to reset the long-term memory mpg value? The display says 'use OK to reset' but I just can't get it to reset.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome!
Yes, sports exhaust is a bit weedy and not what it should be. Worth checking that the flaps in the tail box function correctly, as if the previous owner wasn’t one for giving it the beans, they can get stuck. A quick lube with gt85 after a wash seems to help. Unfortunately, Audi also thought it would be a great idea to add in an exhaust sound that comes out of the speaker in the dash… why? Anyway there are other posts to advise you on this.
I have found that my exhaust note has become deeper after a year of ownership so it’s okay for me. Also there is a gadget that you can fit to hold the flaps open, but at £450 it’s had mixed reviews.
Not sure I’ve reset my long term mpg tbh, but my 18’B9 does have a little button below the dash that’s obscured by the steering wheel that you can reset the trip… otherwise it’s rtfm I’m afraid.
Enjoy!

I realised after posting that the ‘ok’ you press is the turn wheel/button on the left of the steering wheel. Hopefully that is what you are trying? I reset my short term mpg no problem

Thanks for the replies. Having now observed the flaps, I can see (and hear) them open when I choose 'dynamic' in drive select or I use an RS mode with engine sound set to 'pronounced'. There's also an audible difference to the exhaust note whilst accelerating with one of these modes selected so all seems to be working as it should.

I also managed to work out how to reset the long-term mpg value. The 'use OK to reset' message is correct but you have to perform a LONG press of the thumbwheel on the steering wheel. As well as resetting the mpg, it also zeroes the long-term mileage figure as well.

Oh, well done. Good work!
Not the best ever at mpg but it’s not as bad as my B8 4.2 😃

I find that most of the noise increase when in sports transmission is from the higher revs.

For motorway driving I get 36mpg which I don't think can be complained about!

Welcome and great choice of car. Also note you need to wait for the engine to warm up properly before you start to hear the more pronounced sound. Normally temp of >75
