My current car has a chrome exhaust and if I don't scrub it with metal polish every week it goes black. Maybe just stop washing them and no-one will notice?

Ive picked up my new to me 2017 RS6 today from a MD an noticed when i got home all the black paint is flaking off. Is this something that should of been sorted under warranty?

I was at my local Audi dealer on 1st Sept checking out the new 70 plate cars ready for collection. I saw a new RS6 with a sports exhaust and noticed that the inside was not painted. It was nice and shiny.

So I guess for those of us with flaking paint, we could either paint it or clean the paint off completely so it would never happen again. I prefer the black look. I haven’t mentioned it to Audi regarding warranty “yet”.
If you do, please share their comments and reactions here - thanks.

Paul

Hi guys m,

Quick update, spoke to the dealer and they are replacing the exhaust tips. Not sure if its under warranty or because it should of been done when prepping the car. Result either way.

Well that’s both back boxes. They did mine a year ago under warranty because both valves were seized. A year later the paint is flaking off the inside - not good.

After replacing two sets of tips under warranty on my B8 RS4 the dealer gave me another set and I got them Zircotec coated over two years ago. They have been spot on since.Image

Ok. They are welded on the B9!

I haven't looked that closely, is there no way of removing the spot welds?
Seems a daft idea.

Hi,
My 2019 September rs4 sport edition has exhaust tips flaking. I mentioned it to Audi at last service in May, the dealer noted it and said Audi are aware of problem and are looking at solution.
As yet heard nothing regarding warranty, how long would you wait for a reply?
Has anyone heard of a factory fix for this matter.
Regards
Paul

The tips are welded to the exhaust which make replacing them a pain
I personally got some black satin heat resistant paint and touched up the tips

My exhaust tail pipe tip was replaced within 2 weeks. When it went for service they noted it and ordered the part. The car went back for 2 days to have it replaced. Their body Shop did the welding, looks perfect exactly like the other side which is factory welded.

Just an update regarding my tail pipes, reported to Carlisle Audi May 2021 during service visit, then again following service 3 times in total just over 2 Years!
Ask the same question recently, same reply (Postponed Repair)?
Had enough, contacted Audi customer service via email, within 2 days Carlisle Audi phoned to book an appointment to inspect, even though on 3 separate occasions they have seen the car and reputedly advised they had photo.
Now both pipes are looking the same
Will let you know outcome next week.

I find this incredible that a company like Audi are 'looking for a solution '.
I found a solution, Zircotec, which is no secret, and still they look perfect to this day.
