RS4 Sports Exhaust
Hi Everyone. During the cold mornings I noticed exhaust vapour coming from the left exhaust pipe only, with the valves closed. If valves are open exhaust comes out of both pipes.
I went for a motorway drive with valves closed and noticed that the left pipe and back box was hot, while the right box was warm and tail pipe cold.
Has anyone else found this or can confirm normal operation with valves closed. It is as though the bypass exhaust pipe is blocked, but my exhaust pipes were replaced under warranty due to seized valves earlier in the year.
Thanks
Paul

No, the exhaust reacts different on a cold car, nothing to worry about.
How come the valves got stuck on such a recent car, if you don’t mind me asking.

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
The valve spindals were corroded when I purchased the car which was 9 months old with 6000 miles. Both rear boxes replaced under warranty and now I spray them with ACF 50 each time I wash the car and grease the underside to stop it from happening again. I guess it’s a weakness and condensation from the exhaust won’t help. It would be good to hear if anyone else has had similar issues and what you do to prevent it?
FYI if it wasn’t under warranty it would have cost £2800 from UK main dealer, so it’s in my interest to maintain them!!

...but something doesn't add up here about corroded parts (after 9 months)? Vehicles of ALL OEM's - ok, they have slightly different development test spec requirements - have quite demanding endurance and performance test specs, including for corrosion.paulread69 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 10:42 amThe valve spindals were corroded when I purchased the car which was 9 months old with 6000 miles. There should NEVER be corrosion like this, 'unless' the part was not produced to Design Spec. It's possible that was the case but very exceptional. Main point for you or anyone w/this situation is that it got resolved.
[Reminds me of the B8 sports 'black tip' exhaust variants that several complained started to tarnish / rust. That should NEVER have happened. I never heard what the cause was, but - in spite of part production specs - it happened. True.]

Yep - I’ve had both boxes replaced under warranty , valve making horrendous squeaking on startup.

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
Regular application of ACF 50 or similar needed. I also read that they rust, so keep the black chrome oiled as well.

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
Mine went into Audi today, both rear silencers are being replaced under warranty as the valves squeak as they open and close. The silencers are corroded but nothing over and above what a 3 year old car used exclusively outdoors would look like. My car is a 2018 model which is the ‘early’ exhaust, they’re fitting the later exhaust which apparently solves the issue. I was advised that replacing like for like just means kicking the can down the road as the valves will corrode again.s4tokyo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 3:25 pm...but something doesn't add up here about corroded parts (after 9 months)? Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
Can you share how someone can tell if a car has the early or new exhaust?

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
Tech said in the Cit-now vid that the exhaust has a notch on the exhaust after the silencer which identifies it as an early exhaust - it looks like a lozenge from the video, about the size of a thumbnail

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
lllparts do both silencers for £750 each and then just get them fitted at a local exhaust fitter. That being said, they should be covered under warranty until they are 3 years old.paulread69 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 10:42 amThe valve spindals were corroded when I purchased the car which was 9 months old with 6000 miles. Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
That’s a straight warranty claim as there’s a TPI on them. Get them to order the silencers first before you drop your car off.simundo777 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 1:30 pmmine going in next week for sticking / squeaking valves. I'll see what they say (car under approved used warranty)
There were both left and right as showing available last Friday, now they’re on 10 days back order so means I’m in a A5 35 tfsi until then.

Re: RS4 Sports Exhaust
Crewe Audi have just told me my warranty claim has been rejected by Audi as it's not covered!!!
Seriously hacked off that I've now got a squeaking / sticking exhaust valve that I have to either pay a fortune to have fixed or just put up with.
Anyone else had the issue and either had it approved or rejected?
For reference my car is under the approved used scheme rather than the main 3 year warranty.
