Avatar problems ???

Is there something screwy with the avatars at present ?

Sometimes mine is there, sometimes not.
When I looked at my posts an hour ago I could see it (I am pretty sure I could anyway)
Now, it doesn't appear on any of the posts I've recently made.
It is only a small image size, so I doubt its due to its size.

I've also noticed severasl other peoples avatars don't seem to be shown anymore.

What's the story guys ?

Cheers,
John.

Ahh...story is.

We've disabled remote avatars....which means your avatar needs to be uploaded to the site rather than linked via a URL to an image somewhere else.

The reason for this is because some users were linking to huge avatars that we can't control the size of and hence messing up the format of the forum pages.

You can upload an avatar (80x80 pixels max) using the "Profile" link at the top of this page.

Thanks Dave.

My avatar is (or rather was) uploaded though...

I guess this must mean it is greater than 80x80 pixels, right ?

If I look in my profile it doesn't even show the link to it anymore, so I can't modify the size of it
(It was called stimpy if that helps you find it for me - I don't have a copy of it on my machine here)

Cheers,
John.

IIRC the reason I turned the Remote Avatars on again was due to this issue. I think if you have a remote avatar set you can't upload one

I located the image again and reuploaded it.

Dunno what all the 'Remote Avatar' bollox means (I only have 2 braincells as the avatar shows, and each has a mind of its own...)

The remote avatar just means that the avatar is actually loaded from a remote URL rather than from the server that hosts this website - which means we have no control over the sizing of the image or the speed at which it might take to download the image (which could obviously impact the speed of our site).

Ah, I see.

Now can you repeat that in english please...

Only kidding Dave.
I definitely uploaded it to the site last time, just as I have this time.
Never mind, its all fixed now.

I have to say some of the avatars were getting a bit on ther large side, as were the footers.
Gets a bit of a pain in the ar$e waiting for all the images to load sometimes, so I appreciate
you guys are doing what you have to to keep performance at a sensible level.

Fank yoo vewy mutch :beerchug:

Satellites and the earth ??
Now you are talking bollox !!

Smoke and mirrors, sounds like a long session in the pub then :biggrin2:

Right, I'm outa here for 3 days.
Got to go do some flight trials on an imaging radar system (normally goes in a satelite but we're strapping it to a plane as its a bit cheaper). Where's the biggles smiley when you need it....

See you on the other side.
