Avatars

Post by PhilT » Tue Oct 26, 2004 1:57 pm

Been playing with Fatcat's profile to try to get the "Fat Cat" in as an Avatar.... The problem I was having was that we had turned off the ability to have avatars external to the site because some people had avatars that were too big. I've turned the external avatars back on and some people may find that they are now able to change their avatars whereas before they couldn't.

Moving forward the best scenario is that people upload their avatar as the forum software will take care of locating it on the site and sizing it appropriately. In future I would like to be able to turn off the external avatar setting.

Hope this makes sense, as always feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Phil,
I had wondered why the avatars had disappeared.
My avatar is infact located on the site but it still went when you switched off external ones. Maybe there is a funny there somewhere.

I do agree though that they need to be controlled in size else viewing the site over slow networks would make it almost unusable.

Keep up the good work

Yeah even though your avatar is on the site and therefore you would imagine "local", the forum deems it as "external" because it does not exist relative to the forum avatar path.
