how do I post a photo in a post? I see there's a Img button in the menu, but it then suggests something about http:// etc etc. but doesn't come up with a browse botton or anything idiotproof...

Also I see that there's a red flag on "attach files" at the bottom of the forum page, does this mean I don't qualify with my novice posting level perhaps? My profile says that HTML is OFF. Any relevance here? I've only spend about 2 hours trying!

see this from the FAQ:
"Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed)."

Basically what I have done in the past is upload the image to the gallery section - you will need to make a new album first. Once you have done this you have your image posted on a publically available server. You can find out the http:// address for the image by right clicking on the image and selecting properties. Highlight the http:// address and right click and copy.
Then insert the image by typing:
[img]then%20paste%20the%20address%20here[/img]
It is easier if you have two explorer windows open at the same time - one with your new post in and the other open to the gallery where your image is.
Does that make any sense ? :?

Brilliant Glyn - I'll try it.

Looking at your avatar (very nice too) I can see you also know how to make pictures less than the prerequisite 8kB as well. Is this only by using a low pixel resolution and reducing the size of the saved JPEG, or is there a cleverer way?

I think I've fixed the attachments to posts. There is a 256k limit at the moment.

For resizing picture you need a graphics package (Paint Shop Pro) or the Microsoft Image Resizer (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/ ... ertoys.asp)

Do you mean a 256k limit to the size of a photo? Is that possible? The photo I've been trying to post is 70kB. I took Glyn's advice and managed to create a gallery album. The url seems to be

modules/pnCPG/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10327/rs246_norm_RS2%20%26%20tble%

That looks a bit weird...it hasn't even got a .jpg ending...does it look right to you? (The jpg that I posted to the gallery was RS2 & tble mtn.jpg). When I preview it I get a little square with a cross in it, so I've aborted each time. I'll try to reduce the size, but as I said, 256k...? Even the avatar is 8mB..or is this also wrong?

Thanks for a great site...

Just viewed my own message above, and if I click on the link, it doesn't go anywhere...so it must be wrong. Then I right clicked on properties, its obviously cutting off the end of the file name...I'll re-do my gallery entry with a shorter jpeg name...but please also comment on the size issue...

shortened the name, resized using the MS download (very clever!), and successfully posted my photo! Thanks for the advice...now for a decent avatar!

Cheers :D
