slow

Post by dog » Tue Nov 11, 2003 10:56 am

for the last 3 days the site is painfully slow to get around. It is the same from work or from home and other sites load just fine. What is wrong?

Don't suppose you can post the results of a traceroute?

At the command prompt (DOS prompt) type:

tracert www.rs246.com > c:\tr_rs146.txt

This may take a while... The when it has finished (i.e. returned to the prompt), send/post the txt file.

Nothing will print or show on the screen as the output will go to a text file on your PC called tr_rs146.txt. It will just return to the command prompt once finished.

It will show you the amount of hops from your PC to its destination (www.rs246.com) and the time it takes between hops, but by they looks of yours Paul you have a DNS problem (did you do this at work ?), as its not able to resolve the name www.rs246.com to its published IP address. Try tracert 194.70.50.76 instead

You should get something that looks like this:-

C:\>tracert www.rs246.com

Tracing route to www.rs246.com [194.70.50.76]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 16 ms 16 ms 15 ms lo0.plusnet.pth-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.11]
3 15 ms 16 ms 16 ms gi1-2.vlan3.pth-gw3.plus.net [212.159.1.2]
4 16 ms 17 ms 18 ms lon1-10.nildram.net [213.208.106.89]
5 17 ms 18 ms 17 ms LINX-fe0-0-barkley.LON.router.COLT.net [195.66.2
26.49]
6 17 ms 19 ms 18 ms pos8-0-super-grover.LON.router.COLT.NET [212.74.
64.78]
7 19 ms 19 ms 20 ms nermal.muckypaws.net [194.70.50.76]

Trace complete.

or by just using the IP address :-

C:\>tracert 194.70.50.76

Tracing route to nermal.muckypaws.net [194.70.50.76]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 16 ms 15 ms 16 ms lo0.plusnet.pth-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.11]
3 16 ms 16 ms 18 ms gi1-2.vlan3.pth-gw3.plus.net [212.159.1.2]
4 16 ms 15 ms 16 ms lon1-10.nildram.net [213.208.106.89]
5 16 ms 18 ms 16 ms LINX-fe0-0-barkley.LON.router.COLT.net [195.66.2
