I've tuned it as much as I can based on GDPR requirements. I'd like to continue with the ads for a while and then see if I try to put them back as they were and see what the revenue hit is.

Might look into paid membership to get rid of the ads but it wasn't simple the last time I researched it.

What about adding more products to the Shop to get some revenue? I know I sound like a stuck record, but surely this would help out, no?

Looked at it before and for something like a mug, the cost of shipping makes the margins poor. For clothing, you need to bulk order all the stock in different sizes up front. To top it all off, it's got a bunch of labour too.

If you have a way that makes sense, I'm all ears 🤷‍♂️

Sorry guys but I’m losing the will with all the ads.

I come on here most days...but gonna have to give it a miss for a bit.

PhilT - you do a great job and I’m not moaning as I know you are doing your best, but personally I’d rather pay a fee and lose the ad’s.

I'm not quite sure if I should put this, as PhilT said earlier adverts are way to pay the bills but do you guys not run an Adblocker on your internet browsers?

On my phone I just have big blank spaces where I assume the adverts should be so it's not a problem for me. Using Firefox on android.

Update on this... I've pulled the website traffic data and revenue data. It seems RS246 averages ~1,100 unique user visits per day (Fairly consistent over multiple years). The advert revenue has more than doubled since implementing the new ads.

Result is that the current advert format is here to stay for a while and I hope to be ale to tune it further so it's less intrusive. I expected the revenue change to be negligible and to restore the previous layout but the data says otherwise.

I did start looking at a paid membership plugin but didn't make much progress.

Are people getting used to the new layout and willing to put up with it to avoid adding complexity/risk to the forum software software and overhead of managing memberships?

Hi Phil,

Although I don't like the adverts, especially now they are more intrusive, I appreciate they are necessary to pay for the forum.

The only real gripe I get is some of them are pornographic which is worrying when my daughter occasionally uses my phone.

Thanks,

Owain

Adverts are the way of the internet so I’m used to them but it’s where they are. Some pages they can be in the middle of someone’s post, it’s bad.

Cheers
