GPS Location Data on Uploaded pics

Hi There

Just wanted to highlight something brought to my attention by another forum member (thanks RossDagley), with reference to some of my pics on the forum. Photos uploaded to the site directly, using the attachment functionality, retain the original geolocation data, which is then visible to others.

Not an error as such, but something to keep in mind, if you don't want to share your home address for example.

I'm sticking with flickr now, you can set the geolocation data to only be visible to yourself, or off completely.

Thought others might want to know too.

It's quite easy to remove Geo location data whilst taking photos and also after the event across platforms. This article covers pretty much everything for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android...

Mentioned in the above article, but on the Mac I use this if my iPhone still has location services > Camera app location tagging switched on.

Thanks for this Neil.

I actually want to retain the location data on my original files for my own personal purposes, so I like the flickr solution of removing it at the point it's uploaded.

Yes, I agree. But with any uploads, simply make a copy and remove the GPS data with https://imageoptim.com, upload and then trash locally... but that can be faff in the absence of Flickr, I agree...
