Having to take fairly drastic measures now. I have blocked 782 Class B Internet subnets. That's 51,249,152 IP addresses!!! :ban:

Huge thank you to all those that ping me when there is spam posted. It's a huge help

How about charging to been on the site MrT. Even if it is just £1, would it help stop the gits?

That's what I'm thinking, but it's going to take some testing to make sure I can explain why we charge to register. I'm trying to find another way as part of RS246's ethos was to never charge for membership. I could make it so that I have to approve accounts, but it would be a pain in the ....

We pay a £1 via pay pal then you give it us back on or birthday or something like that via pay-pal or just buy a rs246.com Sticker

If I do do it, there's unlikely to be a refund :). Need to keep it simple.

Thanks Amanda. A smilie for all occasions.

Here's what's been going on.
- Over 1000 blocked actions per day by anti-spam software
- Over 300 unique IP addresses by anti-spam software
- The last couple of days is where it gets interesting as I blocked a large number of IPs. I hoping the red and blue lines will go down and the green one will stay about the same.

The only way I've stopped this on the forum I manage is to approve all accounts manually :bash: It's a real pain, for me, but at least I can check each IP address and block permanently if found on Stop Forum Spam website. Admittedly it's a much smaller forum than this though worthless than 2000 members and only a couple of new accounts a day.

I've decided to go down the approve accounts route. We'll see what overhead it causes. Another option is to offer people the option to get instant activation via PayPal.

Thanks chunky. I'm more concerned about new members being put off. For now the admin activation, blocked IPs and realtime spam checking seem to be doing the trick, but the admin activation is a PITA.
