Ive been trying and trying, and im strugglig to get to grips with this new forum (only the forum software...)

ive been a user of various forums over the years with upgrades and changes to forum software along the way.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but i really honsetly think we have taken a step backards with the forum software.

I think it will affect and has affected the community and the "keep comming back" attraction of RS246.

I have no clue whats going on in the forums at all.

i would have rather kept the old forum and helped out with a donation towards the licences....

kindest regards

Paul.

Seems to have really upset you this one...

I'm afraid that going back to UBB Threads means we will loose all the posts from since the 13th March 2004, and RS246 will again become a plain old forum.

RS246 v2.0 is a vast improvement for people who wanted to have a gallery, read/submit news, downloads, reviews, forums, gallery.... All integrated together.

I'm sorry if you are not comfortable with the teething issues of this new version, but please spend some time thinking of other users who wish to use this site beuond a forum, and the negative aspects of using UBB Threads. If you take TSnet and ASnet as examples you will see that they have been heavily hacked to increase their functionality. This approach results in a forum driven site which becomes prone to inability to protect themselves from vulnerabilites due to the issues in upgrading non standard implementations.

If everyone who understands the above and still feel strongly about reverting back to UBB Threads and basically a disjointed web form with bits tagged on would post here and then we can measure the impact this has had. Remember we only went live on Saturday, and therefore there are bound to be some issues, and a learning curve to get up to speed on how this new site works.

Remember a number of users have already converted from RS4.org to RS246.com and had to survive major software upgrades. Previous upgrades have resulted in starting again from scratch. We have a platform here which has the ability to expand and move with the times.

Blah, blah, blah... Whatever... Blah, blah.

Suggest you take a look here too to see what the posibilities of look and feel. Our aim is to provide several different styles for people to choose.

ooooooh! that's a bit fancy.

Paul - it will take getting used to.
Think of it like going from a Tdi to an RS4. You have to get used a new way of driving and how to use the power delivery.
You still only go 70mph on the motorway, but it does it so much easier and can do so much more if you want it to.
(I think the unread posts issue is like your first warranty claim  )

'the forum'? No, the TT-Forum. Well it looks similar, the search is identical and the PM's pop up in the same way.

Complete integration - I don't need x number of logins to use the whole site.

You seem to be saying that the best thing about the site for you is something that does'nt apply to normal users as we only had one userid to use Version 1 and only have one login to use Version 2.

In fact most of the benefits you state seem to have very little to do with the users but seem to relate to ease of running, maintaining and modifying the site which don't really directly apply to normal users.

I agree that change is disruptive and takes some time to acclimatise to and I accept that things have already improved since Sunday and no doubt will continue to improve.

My biggest gripes with the site are :

- the colour scheme being all white - it is very stark and hard to read.
- on the main forums page - yes you can see there have been new posts in a particular section and yes you can see on the right the time , date and userid of the last unread post but you can't see what the subject was which makes it very frustrating to them have to go in and look to see what the subject was only to find that it was a subject you had no interest in.
- there does'nt appear to be any "all" button to show you all posts on a subject.
