The more I read this, the more it makes me feel a bit angry to be honest.

I feel its tantamount to a mutiny. As the owners of this site, surely the ONLY people who can appoint ANYONE are Phil and John and if a consensus of opinion on who should or shouldn't moderate be required, the open request should come from them.

They have no wish to see people leave their forum anymore than the rest of us, but this request for new mods, to me anyhoo, smacks of some people not liking what some people are saying, so lets get some people who will remove them.

I know, personally speaking, that if it does change and become more moderated, I will be off, (not that it will make any difference to anyone- forums are bigger than ANY one man) I dont want to be afraid to open my mouth and express an opinion because I am worried that I will upset someone.

This does not affect just the B7 Rs4 board- it affects the ENTIRE 246 site.

So think long and hard all you Fletcher Christiansens.

So guys you want a moderator......
We had lots moderators and they left and set up a new site...
I personally feel that a site is made worse by moderators, if were all sensible then we dont need people deleting posts or telling people off getting themselves into stressful situations. And then when it starts getting out of hand the general consensus is that the site is tyrannical and over moderated and then its handed back to me or phil to sort out.
To be honest i havent had to do any real moderating until Sims and our friend from across the pond got into a face off.
I am for freedom of speech and as long as it adheres to the site rules then anything goes.
I too am part of other forums which are IMO over moderated and have a inner clique of high users and posters, i dont like it and would prefer a similar situation to here, afterall were all grown ups and not children... just dont start behaving like one and im sure moderators will not be required.
These are my own feelings and not Phils, Phil drops in from time to time to do some admin work, but is working hard and bringing up his new family.
Cheers

I think the key phrase there is "if we're all sensible"... being sensible is difficult for everyone in some situations, and someone is going to step over the line at some time necessitating some degree of intervention.

Of course where "the line" is is an opinion which some will inevitably disagree with.

There's no element of mutiny involved here as some have suggested, just a desire to have a site that doesn't make members feel threatened and which enables owners of the great cars we own to have good accurate information.

interesting only 14 votes and split too
the fact the "Line" is over stepped from time to time is inevitable
but who has the right to set the line?
Me, you, anyone?
Putting a moderator in means that he is the guy who decides what the line is, his line may be seen as dictatorial by others.
Catch 22
Been there done that!
cheers

What's not broken never needs fixing!!!

The moderators we already have, have a light touch attitude, never seen anything taken off unless it was getting personal and nasty or even bordering on libelous.

They have never stopped debate, never deleted opinions, views, etc..... They have never pushed their own agendas, started threads they would personally benefit from.

I agree with Mooch in many of his points.

If you don't like the way this forum is moderated take your posts some where else. Internet democracy is easy - merely a "click" and you are on your merry way.

I agree with whats been said regarding no Mods.

The guidelines are written in black and white, scroll down to number 6 (the 6th commandment of RS246) ;)

Agree that the current setup should be fine, and certainly don't agree with polling for mods without prior discussion with John / Phil

I actually think the RS4 forum is beyond moderation, but that's another story...

Apathy on the voting numbers ....... feels like a general election.......

290 viewings of the thread and only 22 votes so far........???

I have not made as many posting as others, my technical knowledge, well you could write it on the back of a first class stamp. I get far more out from this site than i could ever put back. But I read it for months before buying my RS6. The characters on the forum [won't name any, all are great], proper info, when you dig down and take the d**k swinging out of the equation, it's better than anything else out there and guess what???

It's ****king FREE!!!! and not costing me £110.00 plus VAT an hour, and i know who to take my car to in case it stops working for a reason i will never understand or have any idea how to fix.

Lets move on from this - John and Phil are doing a great Job!

Lets stop this thread and move on

It's really heart warming that after so many years of hard work and grief, that when we do less we get more :D

RS246 was started by John back in 2002. I was a mod/admin on Audi-Sport and Tyresmoke, and came over to help build a home for the RS4 clan. It's been 8 years, a lot has happened, I don't like all of what happened along the way, but to be honest I like the fact I now spend a fraction of the time I used to spend on the site. It's a shame we don't organise as many events as we used to, but that also had its challenges beyond pub meets (I would like to see more pub meets, they used to rock!!).

RS246 is a hobby. The recession has hit a lot of us personally and the focus is on work. The site income is low and goes directly into a rainy day fund. I think I can speak for John also when I say that "We are proud of what we have built and the way you guys treat it so well".

I've just started working on RS246 v4.0 (Note v3.0 took 6 months). What we may need to do is look to fund some consultancy to get some custom work done.

So, back to the original question: "Time for some new moderators", I submitted my vote.

dont take any notice phil, a mutiny by largely people who do not use the forums, or joined recently, is taking the pee to say the least.

I have to add an Agree to Mouch's comment .. I think this forum is pretty self moderating and yes runs a little warm sometimes .. but its not supposed to be Disney .. So I vote No
