Agreed - this is the whole point of putting it to a referendum; poll the membership, everyone's opinion is valid, I'm all for that.

Would just like to point out however a slight contradiction; on the one hand you have this:
You should not assume that it is only adult men that read this site and you should also not assume that all adult men find the humour your talking about funny or appropriate.
And on the other you have this:
I'm assuming the material will degenerate further once a seperate section has been created
You can't be selective about what you choose to assume in the context of this debate, especially if you're telling people that they shouldn't make assumptions, yet apparently you can ...

I'm sorry but I fail to see the contradiction. It is reasonable to assume that the material published in a 'blue room' would be at a level or worse than that is currently published. It is also unreasonable to assume that only adult men read this site and an unreasonable assumption to think think that all adult men find the type of adult material already published on the site funny.

As I said I fail to understand why rs246.com needs this type of humour at all. The site seemed to get along fine without it and it has only been in the last year or so that it has become prevalent.

but i thought the point of off topic was to stop everyone being bored shitless with the same old..what turbos, what brakes what remap question over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ...GET MY POINT..
there,s nothing new happening so a section that makes people laugh cant be a bad thing..can it..
if you dont like the title then dont read it..
maybe put a warning on the off topic section and maybe password protect it..register for another password to access that section..no pasword no access no problem..
oh and i voted yes as well..cos i drive a BMW and im an outcast anyway..

Not once have I said "only adult men" or "all adult men" read the site and/or find the site funny. I clearly said I assumed that it is the vast majority of the site membership (>95%) were adult males. I still stand by this assumption, and I'd wager that it was bang on the money.
As I said I fail to understand why rs246.com needs this type of humour at all. The site seemed to get along fine without it and it has only been in the last year or so that it has become prevalent.
Times change, things change. And I'm very sure your 9 year old can find far worse subject matter on the web than in the OT section of RS246.com. I have a 10 year old son - but I certainly wouldn't let my fear for his innocence dictate the content for a car enthusiasts web site.

If, as you suggest, time has moved on and that we can look forward to more of the same as far as adult humour is concerned on this site then it will be time for me to wish you well and move on somewhere else.

One option could be an area which is only visible to a group of users - In fact S4TAN could be the approver to allow people into that group/area. I think there is a place for it, but access does need to be on the basis of recommendation.

The site does have an age check mechanism now that is down to the registering user's honesty (Not checked, and therefore potentially open to all).

To address Jeff's concerns about content degenerating: I don't think that is necessarily true, however I do take the point, and to be honest I personally wouldn't want porn and the like on the site - no need for it here - the web is clogged with that type of content anyway - my point was that the sometimes weird, humorous and bizarre aspects of human nature can be amusing, and members enjoy sharing these things in the OT section. Maybe Blue Room is a misnomer - it has connotations that are misleading - I'd never want the site to stop being 'family friendly' - but at the same time I see nothing wrong with catering for the more adult sense of humour either.

The OT section used to be the area for this - why can't it continue being so?

I completely agree with S4TAN on this. No need or want for porn here, we are only talking about adult humour, aren't we? G

So...have an area that SATAN approves access to this area (Hell ?) where SATAN and the chosen (disciples?) can share the weird, humorous and bizarre aspects of human nature and then berate each other with S&M or homosexual references.

Does this mean that the rest of us in the normal site (Heaven ?) don't have to put up with the banter of a sexual nature (S&M, homosexual or just strange) or am I missing the point?

Still don't understand why a car interest site needs this but what do I know. Yes....I know .....I'm prudish, moralistic, outraged etc etc by this standard.
