Help Request: Storage and MMI explained.

Post by kevinflynn » Wed Jan 31, 2024 7:49 am

Hello. This is only my second post please bear with me.

I have a 2018 B9 S4. I also have the ROSS-Tech Hex programmer. It allows some adjustments but by no means can it performance map but I can modify any restrictions within the MMI. The problem is the coding is somewhat cryptic.

My question is this, does anyone here have a STRAIGHT answer in regards to USB storage sticks and format/capacity/encoding for video?

I have experienced very inconsistent behavior with the USB port and reading sticks. (thumb drives)

Some flat out display "Media Source is unreadable"
Some work but half the video files are greyed out with "Unable to playback content" underneath the file name when scrolling down the file list.
I have had one stick with a video work, copy that same video to another stick and it's greyed out with the "unable to playback content" so that would suggest the codec isn't the issue. But WHAT is the issue then?

I cannot reproduce the issue and the inability to playback some files and be successful with others seems quite random. It itsn't "mkvs are greyed out" or "only mp4s play"
The one movie is a copy on both sticks and it only plays on the one.

I tried formatting to exFAT and NEITHER stick would be read. According to the chart I saw on here it IS supported BUT the post was for an RS5.
I can say there is a VAST difference between my MMI and the only I used on a rental 2023 in December. It could do just about anything.

so short version is can I use my Ross-Tech to get my MMI up to more recent compatibility or is there a flash available?
Or does anyone know what the true truth is on these acceptable formats? I am attempting FAT32 but it has a 4GB file size restriction and a lot of my movies are over 4GB.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Kevin
