rs6 c5 rebuild
so I purchased this car with bottom end failure for a very good price!
whilst it's in parts I have a little list of things to replace and also have a peek inside gearbox whilst it's off to make sure it's all ok.
I soon set about dropping the engine and gearbox and stripped the engine. now just a case of organising machine work for the block and finding a good crank. whilst it's in parts I have a little list of things to replace and also have a peek inside gearbox whilst it's off to make sure it's all ok.

Re: rs6 c5 rebuild
engines all stripped but have discovered the block is pretty much buggered! there are options available but the most cost effective is looking like have the engine fitted with custom liners which will enable me to use standard pistons, have a meeting at machine Shop next week to asses the job and get a quote, if pistons are no good a set of forged fcp pistons will be fitted and more than likely a set of uprated con rods.
Biggest issue is still the crank as this is beyond saving and seemingly impossible to get oversize bearings so will keep a look out for a good second hand one if not I may have to have a forged one made, none of this is cheap but I think worthwhile as the car is probably never gonna be sold, I have thought about a second hand engine but at around 3.5k I cant warrant spending that for it to risk blowing up 6 months later.
plans next week after meeting will be to strip and inspect box which on removing sump seems nothing untoward so fingers crossed there, turbos been sent of for a refurb whilst its stripped as no point refitting the old ones as all though they seem good condition I don't want a failure on a new engine.
whilst all this is happening ill get on with cleaning everything up and checking parts as follows
1 I have injectors flow tested and cleaned
2 turbos reconned
3source decat pipes and exhaust
4 possibly send blistein coilovers away for a service
that little lot should keep me busy

Welcome and good luck with the project! If you have a look on the C5 forum there's plenty info on recommended/essential bits to change and things to check whilst the engine is out.

Re: rs6 c5 rebuild
every single thing will be checked and replaced of needed, however sourcing a crankshaft is seemingly impossible, if one cant be sourced it will end up being broke for parts. so projections on hold till one turns up.

Excellent news. Where'd you source it from in the end?

stumbled across one on Facebook of a guy, I've been reliably informed a s6 crank is identical too just need to use a different flex plate.

Re: rs6 c5 rebuild
bit of a update ended up bagging a complete engine for a bargain price that had been removed for being down on compression on 1 cylinder ( was bought for parts) and turns out it only needs a valve bottom end is in perfect condition!
work has started to clean and refurb the heads and during this week will strip gearbox as a precaution and have a peek inside to see if needs anything.

ordered this twin afr gauge today as well one the most important external gauges you can have IMHO to keep a eye on your engines well being.
