This is very interesting mate.

My rear brake hard line end and flexi ends are corroded. The fronts look a little better. I am doing my brakes this weekend and was going to try to undo the flexi's but I won't now in case I break and hard line.

So are you saying that it isn't possible to add a length of brake line and make up a new end connector?. If I take my car in to a workshop for braided hoses for example, and they come across flexi's that have to be cut off, will they be able to re-flare the ends and finish the job?

It’s probably worth spraying them in wd40 each night and trying to undo them you've got nothing to lose really, its possible to add a section but the only flaring tool i have that can do steel properly needs to be mounted in a vice so i had to remove mine from the car and then the next connector under the passenger wheel arch was also corroded so i just replaced them all, rears are £20 and £30 plus vat but i think the tank needs to be dropped a little to do the drivers side.

Ah I see. I may try some penetrating oil and see if they loosen up.

I note you can get 'in situ' flaring tools. I've seen some for around £37 that have good reviews.

Iv had a nightmare with my front brakes. New discs and pads to fit but pins were jammed solid and pistons sticking so sent mines away to be rebuilt. Had to buy new front flexis 55 quid plus vat each. Turning out an expensive job for me hope yours goes better

Seen them and the seem to do the job, with me already having the tank out that was the price of one of the lines so just bought new 😂

I haven’t fared well either. Front flexi wouldn’t seal and was leaking. Had to cut it out and then flaring didn’t work on the steel hard line. Now need a new drivers front hard line as a minimum. Nightmare as I need the car.

Update time.
I haven't had as much time on the car as I would have liked lately due to family commitments etc :boohoo:

But I have managed some time, I started off fitting the front subframe torqued up to spec with new bolts, fitted the coilovers using the original bolts up top as they don't need to be replaced, next was all the suspension arms, front uprights and hubs all with new bolts torqued to spec at the ride height I will be running and anti seize compound when steel is in contact with the aluminium, original re coated brake shields were fitted also.
IMG_6904.JPG
Had yet another trip to TPS to pick up my new calliper bolts, driveshaft bolts, fuel neck heat shield and heat shield nuts along with new plastic nuts for the undertrays.
IMG_6897.JPG
Added the calliper brackets with new bolts torqued up to a hefty 196nm
IMG_6905.JPG
Bolted on the new reyland discs with titanium countersunk screws

I then had a friend come round to help me lift in the rear subframe but just as he got here remembered the fuel tank had to go in first, fitted a new fuel filter ( mine was dated 2006! And black fuel poured out :audibash: ) the tank was then fitted followed by the subframe at which point I remembered I needed to fit the rear brake lines and the subrafe and tank had to come back out :bash: with the brake lines in the tank and subframe were fitted but sadly the subframe had to come back out!
Before I sent the rear subframe to powder coat I cut a few grooves in the original upper control arm bolts to clean out the threads and these were left fitted when coated, sadly when fitting the upper control arms one of the bolts wasn't going in right.
The subrame was lowered but unfortunately fell from the jack, the only damage was to my trusty iPhone 6s!

Unfortunately I have lost over 2500 pictures of the kids and the car, I'm hoping it might turn on with a new screen.

I popped to a local engineering Shop to buy a m12x1.5 tap and cleaned out the threads, fitted the subframe back on the car and hoped it was the last time.

I had a friend come and help me lift in the rear diff and shafts so gave it a quick degrease and power wash.

I unfortunately had to lower the rear subframe again as i couldn't get the lower control arm bolts in
I fitted all the arms while it was off the car as it was just a bit easier.

Subframe back on the car and now has the coilovers, hubs and coilovers fitted again with all new bolts.

That takes me up to date, hoping to get the rear end all buttoned up this weekend with the exception of the exhaust, that needs to stay off as I have just ordered new H&R anti roll bars.

Looks like you’re making good progress, must be nice to have everything fresh. I bet once you are finished you could fit the rear subframe with your eyes shut. I think you’ll need more than a new screen though, your phone is bent. Surely your it’s backed up to iCloud or a computer?

Cheers

I’m hoping the screen can be plugged in but not fitted just so I can get the pictures off it, subframe has to come out again so I can torque a couple of bolts properly, hopefully it should stay clean underneath for a bit

Fantastic work mate, I've recently just had my first service done from cm tunning, rest were from main Audi dealers, And my fuel filter had the same fuel filter from 2006 its unbelievable that Audi don't change fuel filter on these cars

When I last had my car serviced I asked for the filter to be done they then called me to say the filter is in the tank and doesn’t need replacing, I wonder if this is the information given out by Audi as it seems too common

Quick update, after smashing my phone to pieces and losing many of my pictures I lost heart in keeping this updated.
We also rather suddenly decided to put our house on the market and have accepted an offer within weeks which means the Audi is getting evicted to a smaller standard double garage in the new house so I have had to crack on with it, and will in the style of star wars finish the thread as a sort of prequel.

So as of this week this is where I am at.

Result! Car is looking great, you must be pleased to have it back on the road after all the work you have put into it.

How does it ride with the 034 Motorsport sub-frame mounts? I will be replacing mine shortly and not sure to go for these or stick with OEM.
