Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Nicely done Nick. It suits the vibe your car has, and the quality looks high

Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Thanks guys.
I'll see how I get on with it and go from there.
Hopefully it will give me the extra grip I'm after (especially whilst steering with one hand - gear changes, etc.).
Plan B is to retrim the original wheel with loads of girth (but limited sculpturing).
I normally prefer circular steering wheels over FBSW, for normal road use - manoeuvrability around town, parking, etc.
Ergonomics justify a FBSW, for this application, so it's all a bit of an experiment for me to get the best balance between drivability and aesthetics...

Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
I really like that type of sculptured steering wheel.
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
I've been slacking a bit on the updates ...although, to be fair, there wasn't much to update on, up until about a couple of weeks ago...
So...
The steering wheel is now installed (much improved feel).
.
The Turbosmart Boost Controller is installed, along with turbo blankets and uprated high & low pressure fuel pumps.
The cats are out.
Boost is up, map is tweaked.
.
Was a bit of a scramble (with several complications, requiring ferrying of parts around the country to resolve and last-minute work), but got the car back just in time to attend the World Record attempt at Goodwood (largest number of R8s gathered in one place).
.
Created a couple videos of the event (mainly the convoy there):

.
It's getting there...!

Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Are you going to bring her to Wings & Wheels Nick? Or will it be one of the others
Would love to see her in the flesh.
Would love to see her in the flesh.
If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, when doctors eat apples do they disappear?
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
May well be one of the others, Dunc, due to the number of seats required...vagmachine wrote:Are you going to bring her to Wings & Wheels Nick? Or will it be one of the others

Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
I bet all of the other R8 owners are like "...what the fuck is that sound?!?!"
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Pretty much! ...along with "I thought I heard turbos" and jet engine references...bam_bam wrote:I bet all of the other R8 owners are like "...what the fuck is that sound?!?!"
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
They look great. Are they Inspiri? If that’s how you sell them?
Cheers

Thanks Frazer.FrazerD wrote:They look great. Are they Inspiri? If that’s how you sell them?

Very similar look to the Ispiri FFR1 (which I'd also considered), but these are Judd T311R - I wanted to retain OEM sizes (19x8.5J fronts, 19x11J rears), and most manufacturers (including Ispiri) just don't seem to make them.
Fitment's not easy on these, especially when going for concave!
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Can I ask why out of curiosity? Surely going wider at the front would look better and also put more rubber on the road?TechNick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:32 pmThanks Frazer.

Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
There just isn't much space to play with - everything's very compact and precise. As it is, the slight concave on the fronts means I've had to space them out slightly to clear the calipers (and they only just clear the arch liners on full lock). Even the rears only clear the calipers with a bit of spacing.FrazerD wrote: Can I ask why out of curiosity? Surely going wider at the front would look better and also put more rubber on the road?

Wider wheels would really need wider trak - i.e. wider arches, different suspension and steering setup, etc.
Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
Interesting, a lot more involved then. Regardless, they look very good.TechNick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:10 pmThere just isn't much space to play with - everything's very compact and precise. Re: TechNick's Twin Turbo R8
There was a bit too much poke for my liking, with the new wheels:
Rears were an easy fix, as previously had 10mm spacers fitted - so just needed to reduce them down a bit (to the minimum required to clear the calipers).
However, the front custom larger (380mm) discs had bells that, effectively, included a 10mm spacer. I could have just had new bells made up (especially as the existing 380mm rotors have very little wear), but didn't fancy the idea of the car being stuck on a ramp/stands for a week or two whilst they were being fabricated.
Also, the rear spacers were hiding a few other issues that needed addressing...
Net result? A bit of a shopping list of parts...
(Plus new rear hubs and bearings)
Happy with the outcome.
A lot of money for something that most people will never even notice the difference, but at least the new pads should help improve the braking performance even further (once bedded in!).
...plus, it's nice to have shiny rotors and bells!
