Ric's 8.5 RS4

Post by Urbanpixels » Sat Feb 18, 2017 7:00 pm

Good evening all.

I've finally picked up my 2014 RS4 from my local dealer.

She is a 8.5 late 2014 (31st December) but MyAudi shows it as a 2015 model so perhaps it's one of the last ones?

Has all the options I was looking for albeit not fully loaded, I originally looked for a daytona or sepang model however after seeing Panther black in the sun i was sold.

Alu Pack
Memory Seats
Pan Roof
Carbon Inlays
20" Vspokes
Silver leather
Drive select & sports pack
Power Boot
Low milage (14k)

My old car (B8 S5 V8) had the keyless start which i wanted to avoid on the RS4 as i've read they can be easier to steal (could be wrong or not as correct) but it's not a deal breaker option for me at the moment.

Although i'm not going to be doing a lot of modification etc to this car as i think it's pretty perfect already. I may do a few things in future so i'd like to document the car on here (i have a few build threads on other forums for my project car (Toyota supra) so it's nice to have them running for the "daily" too!)

A few pics of the car:

A few mods arrived from Virdee (cheers) i went for the 10mm spacers for the front and the 12mm spacers for the rear along with some K&N panel filters

I've read about all the OBD port theft which lead me to the next modification to try and kerb and potential tea leafs.

I've redirected one of the communication wires from the OBD port to a lockable switch in the fusebox which means the port is fully disabled for communication (wether an attackers unit is powered or not) and needs a key to enable the switch. Of course when it goes to audi i can just enable this switch.

As the switch is also located in the dash fuse boxes of course this is totally un-accessible when the doors are closed and deadlocked. which hopefully will help against safeguarding attacks.

You can see the switch below:

Thats all for now, ill be fitting my dash cam tomorrow ill post a few pics of how that fits as it's very small and cannot be seen from the drivers seat and i know a few people are looking for suitable ones.

The 2015 model year cars are normally released shortly after the middle of the prevoius year (around July or August) ie most cars registered August 2014 onwards will be MY2015 cars.

Cheers guys,

Thanks Mike that makes sense!

I had chance to do a few VCDS mod's today using a friends equipment.

Mods were:

Hidden Menu
Alarm delay

I wanted to add a few other things, but it turns out they were already enabled, Lap timer, Dipping mirror etc.

Because i was playing with VCDS i also managed to confirm that my OBD disabling switch worked or not. It performs as expected.

Switch on to use the OBD port and switch off to disable it fully:

Another modification is adding my dashcam (which i removed from the s5) and it was a doddle to fit with a fuse tap from the passenger fusebox.

Not an exciting modification i know, but if this forum is like others i've been on, people are always looking for options on dashcams etc and what fits best etc.

My particular model is the mini805, it's a chinese special but is very highly regarded on the pistonheads site as it does higher than 1080p res, footage is great at night etc and has GPS etc for insurance purposes but mainly, it's SMALL so can hide away very well.

Thanks for looking!

Looks lovely, I bet you are very happy with it.
I pick mine up Friday
I will be fitting my blackvue, can I ask if the live feed you used was switched or permanent?
What fuse number was it?
I have a power magic pro too so I may fit that also.

I used a switch feed from the passenger side glove box. I cannot say for sure which fuse it was as the owners manual shows pictures for a LHD car by the looks of it and everything is mirror imaged.

It was a 5amp fuse and tested with a multimeter if it was ignition or perm.

I used a fuse tap so the original circuit retains it's 5amp fuse but add's a further 3amp fuse for the dash cam.

What do you want to know? All the switch does is disable one of the CAN communication lines. So if a thief did smash the window and connect the plug they'd never be able to communicate with the car.

The switch itself has a key which is in the side fuseboxes which can't be accessed because the doors which of-course are deadlocked.

It's not going to stop a determined thief i suppose as they'd come for the keys. But it avoids it going with the chancers with 20quid eBay tools.

Few more mods here:

Fitted both K&N air-filters provided by Virdee along with the spacers (10/12mm)
Fitted a lovely OEM carbon engine cover thanks to Zebede for that!

Lovely engine cover really impressed with the quality and condition:

The wheels look so much better. I'd be interested to hear if you get any issues with stone chips with them. I'm eyeing up wheels that are the equivalent of 11mm spacers

I ended up removing the front spacers, they were just a little bit too wide for me (would have been better with 8mm). Plus with it being in at Audi for knocking i thought it would be best!

It's also in at the detailers for 3 days having a full 2 stage machine polish and coating (i usually do this myself but decided to get a pro to do it)

Hopefully ill have some before and after pics when i pick it up.

The car is back from the detailer and wow is all i can say.

The machine polishing has really brought out the purple in the panther black, i love it.

I usually do machining myself however as we've just had a child i have zero time for it so gave the job to a local detailer and glad i did, it's perfect.

Full 2 stage polish and finished with Swissvax waxes. Wheels sealed with Gyeon Rim coat and protective XPEL paint protection film fitted to the rear bumper luggage area to avoid small scratches taking things in and out of the boot!
