Alex's B7 RS4 Avant

Post by AlexB7RS4 » Sun Aug 21, 2016 7:40 am

Figured I might start a build thread.

Picked my RS4 up a couple of weeks ago. 2007, Avus Silver Avant. Carbon trims, buckets, Bose stereo. Completely stock, and very clean, with 95,000km on the clock.

Drove it straight from Sydney to Adelaide (1400km) and it didn't miss a beat. Here's a couple sunrise shots from the drive:

First mod starting today. Blackout the grille and badge. Pulled the front grille off following the excellent directions here:

Bumper off:

Taped up and first coat of plasti-dip:

First time using this stuff but seems to be going on clean. Will update as we go along...

6 coats on and looking good. A couple of minor mishaps in the paint but nothing that anyone will notice. Now to hope the possums don't walk all over it during the night as it dries...

Looking good Alex. You going to go for the rest of the black optic look too?

Just a question though; wouldn't it have been quicker and easier to unscrew the grille from the bumper than to cover the bumper up?

I looked at it but some of the clips are the one use type, and I'd heard a few people talk about breaking clips. Taping it up only took about 5min.

I'll switch the rear badge out for a black one I think, then see how I go for the window trim and roof rails. I'll probably leave the mirrors silver.

The only pause I have on the roof rails is because I'll use them relatively regularly to carry the mountain bike.

Bar is back on. Managed to fix up the bumper gap somewhat as well. I had a really hard time loosening the lower headlight adjustment screw on the passenger side (LHS) so it's not as good as it could be, but far better.

Cat bypass and centre res delete happened today. Sounds much better! Still quiet enough with exhaust valves closed, but bordering on antisocial with the valves open under load at higher revs :D

Also, a package arrived today from the UK! (Thanks Mike)Image

Subtle change on the back as well. Plasti dipped the RS4 badge black, and removed the Audi badge. Just testing the look, if I like it, I'll order some proper black badges. The plasti dip looks ok from a distance but up close is obviously a fairly poor finish. Image

Thats a great headunit! I had one in my C5 RS6 and the amount of things you can change fiddle with is mind blowing but make sure you read the eleventy-billion page manual as pressing a single button can screw everything up (think it was to do with the radio).

Finally got this in... Mikes old Alpine deck (thanks Mike!). Image

Makes a huge difference to the interior, really modernises it, and the red theme matches the interior very well for a close to OEM look.

Nice one Alex. Fits that space nicely with that surround doesn't it.
