Deano's B8 RS4
Re: Deano's B8 RS4
Is that a standard or sports exhaust you had fitted as standard?
I may have asked this already but are you keeping it or would you consider selling it?

It's the sports exhaust. I was planning on keeping it so i could swap back and sell the milltek when the car goes but would always entertain offersnoidea wrote:Is that a standard or sports exhaust you had fitted as standard?

Blimey! That's some impressive gains from just the exhaust on a NA car

Re: Deano's B8 RS4
Big NA engines probably benefit the most from a properly tuned exhaust because the back pressure and sequencing play an important role in scavenging the cylinders. On a turbo car you're often just trying to ease the resistance on the compressor.Huwbert wrote:Blimey! That's some impressive gains from just the exhaust on a NA car
What did suprise me is how badly designed the OEM one is. At some points the impressions in the pipe reduce the diameter by nearly half.
Also it has no crossover between the banks which would reduce the effectiveness because it's a cross plane v8 the firing order limits your ability to scavenge on a single bank.
Re: Deano's B8 RS4
I thought i recognised that dyno, then i realised the daytona RS at Perfect Touch the other day was yours ( my black B7 was there for an oil service)
They are a good bunch there who seem very passionate about what they do. Glad your enjoying the Milltek, wanted to hear it but i was too late!

Am i right in thinking that's the 'Performance' exhaust too?DeanoC wrote:What did suprise me is how badly designed the OEM one is. At some points the impressions in the pipe reduce the diameter by nearly half.

Re: Deano's B8 RS4
Yes, well the 'sports' exhaust. It just has black rear boxes that are louder. I'm not sure if the option also reprograms the drive select to keep the valves open all the time in dynamic as I've never been near one with the sports pack.Huwbert wrote:Am i right in thinking that's the 'Performance' exhaust too?DeanoC wrote:What did suprise me is how badly designed the OEM one is. Re: Deano's B8 RS4
So today was all about some rear rattle elimination. I had a feeling the milltek may have been the source of some of the rpm related ones and i was right. It rests on this cross member:
Nothing a few washers cant fix:
Next up was a harder mod. At the rear of the gearbox is plastic air scoop that directs air over the final drive output. The milltek down pipes are a couple of mm from it.
It was a bit melted:
I reduced the width by 10mm each side, made new sides from aluminium rather than plastic then put some heat proof foil tape over it:
Now there is a nice little gap:
Good news is all of the rattles, knocks and buzzing is gone but not only that the exhaust sounds so much better in the cabin with all the windows and roof shut! I mean totally different! It was very deep and boomy before and filled the whole cabin. Around 2k rpm on load was unbearable and around 3k was not great. Now it is nowhere near as bad and sounds 'throaty'. The other big difference is the sound is behind you which is much better.
I'm going to do a bit of sound proofing on the boot floor and inside the boot side panels and then i think this is going to be spot on

Was the firmware update done at the dealers?DeanoC wrote:Little update today to go along with the new firmware a few weeks ago and to keep it fresh and current
I assume you have to pay for this separately to the map update?
Re: Deano's B8 RS4
Looks good Deano! I definitely miss that non-res Milltek V8 soundtrack!

It was. They should do them together.noidea wrote:Was the firmware update done at the dealers?DeanoC wrote:Little update today to go along with the new firmware a few weeks ago and to keep it fresh and current

Re: Deano's B8 RS4
Some great DIY work there, although you'd expect these problems to have been delt with in the development stage? Especially as they ran a Red RS4 for a while.
Have Milltek upped the exhaust diameter causing these issues then?
