Warranty - I honestly don't know. As you mentioned most have a 100k limit (my old one) plus I doubt any would even touch mine given the power but I still think that for most owners it's probably better to have one than not. Or have deep pockets "just in case", almost like a C5 GB/DRC fund :D

Ha yes the C5 money pit! My first RS6 lust was for a C5 and whilst they are still an epic car the issues you mentioned (amongst others) scared me away from owning one

I just assumed that because you did so much preventative maintenance like all the coolent lines and wheel bearings I assumed that you would have done the diff oils MRC did my rs4 was only on 53k miles but oils looked rough. When you crack your diff let us know what failed and what the oil condition is like? Has anyone ever considered sending GB or diff oil off for analysis? Something we used to do with the race cars...

RS6BHAV - Mine was the Formula X plan through CarCarePlan which is only available through a dealer.

GBR1198 - I had the diff oils "supposedly" changed in October during my 20k servicing at MRC but I'd not posted that on here so I was confused as to how you knew that I had, you stalker you :D

Once the diff is taken apart I'll get a report with pics on it's failure and find out if the oil actually has been replaced. I'd guess that one of the needle bearings has jammed and I'm hoping it's not down to old dirty oil.

As I'm so incredibly lucky ( ) I was about to book it into Unit20 for it's next service, which is due at the end of the month, and I was planning to get all 3 diffs and the GB oil changed again whilst it was there. The timing of this failure couldn't have been worse :D

LOL, true but I'd prefer to take it somewhere I've used before and which still has my trust.

For this particular service I'm getting the DRC re-pressurised and a leak sorted so it's Unit20 for that however I'll give 4 rings a look over for some other bits in the future.

What abut contacting the manufacturer directly might do better than audi

When I bought my car 2 years ago, I took it to 4Rings to have the diff oils and gearbox oils replaced as well as a service. Oils for preventative maintenance.

He changed the rear diff oil ok, stripped 7 of the gearbox pan studs, and couldn't (wouldn't??) find how to change the front diff oil.

Last year I went to MRC for it's first main service in my ownership.

I recall 4Rings telling me I should change the gearbox oil every 60000 miles? and MRC I think advise 20000 miles for tuned cars?

I bought a 3 year warranty when I bought my car from an independent dealer, has been <beep> worthless up to now.

So, that's my experience.

IanH755 wrote:Gurj - Audi UK have none and the parts system at Audi Germany says there's only "partially built" ones in the factory where the back order to complete them is upto 6 months but they can't guarantee that time scale.

Thanks for the offer though!

Bam_Bam - It's a common A4/A6 part if bought 2nd hand (dozen plus on ebay) but there's none new and with 2nd hand I could be back in the same situation rapidly. However what I'm thinking about is uprating the diff (like we talked about earlier) so I may end up with a cheap eBay one temporarily whilst an upgrade is done but I'm waiting for a few e-mails back from Quaife etc before deciding what to do next.
Im not sure how far along the repair you are Ian, but just come across this

Possibly get the diff bits needed and be a little lighter on the pocket?

My worry with 2nd hand is you've no idea how long it'd last for so I could be in the same situation is 1 weeks time or 10 years time so instead I'll just replace the internals with new. We've taken the diff apart and it's a fairly common "diff" inside an Audi housing so replacing the internals is easier than 1st thought but it's still £1500+ for new internals
