The work done on this is sublime. This was at Liberty Autoworks right?. I think we spoke on the FB forum not long ago.

Look forward to the thread updates :)
Yes, it is Jim doing the underside restoration. Really happy I got him to do the work, it's turning out better than expected!

Greg Howell did the respray prior to this work getting done, so just stuff in the engine bay to do next.

Part of me wants to stick a new engine in it but the current one is still going really well so might just do the bits around it.

Aye, sure we spoke on FB. Were you not making up stainless DRC pipes?

Yes it was me doing the stainless DRC pipes. It's taken a while but were there now and about to get them all made up. Decided to go with a joint in the long ones, and had to decide where to put the joint etc.

Good work on the stainless pipes, I would have ordered a set myself but they are already on the car now. They were refinished before they went on so hopefully they will last longer than the originals. Having said that, can't see me using my car once the road salt comes out. No issues using it in the wet though.

I know what you mean about the length of the long ones, they only just fitted inside the Avant!

Next up was to install the new DRC hard lines and brake pipes as all of the originals were fit only for the bin! The new DRC tubing was primed in 2K epoxy, sprayed in base coat, before then being matte clear coated. The idea is to make them last longer than they would as stock....... apparently the original paint is really thin. This gets damaged when they are pushed into the plastic retaining clips at the factory and so start rusting almost straight away!

Apparently they took a bit of additional bending to get them to sit correctly under the car....

Still, they are on now. Along with the new DRC central control valves and refurbished fuel tank.

Cheers! The real hero is the garage carrying out the work though.

The car is slowly getting there.....

The rear sub-frame sourced 2nd hand from France and the almost new front one from the UK were taken back to bare metal and refinished. Just as well because the originals were in a right state. They could help someone out in the future though so might look at getting these refinished as well. It's always good to have spares....

New wheel bearings, ABS sensors and every bush and mount has been replaced. Driveshafts were sent to Driveshaft UK to be refurbished.

As these cars are getting on a bit now, I am trying to return the car back to OEM as much as possible, whilst parts are still available. Also, because this is a road car, no benefit for me fitting poly bushings/solid sub-frame mounts etc.

With the refurbished rear sub-frame assembly back on the car it was time to fit the braking components and connect up the DRC system.
I have had the stainless Goodridge braided hoses for a good few years now but never got around to fitting them due to the corrosion on the hard lines.

The brake calipers were all completely refurbished in late 2020 by BrakeCaliperRefurbs. They came back perfect and Jonny was a really nice guy to deal with. New OEM pads (Endless ones were unavailable) and Brembo/Pagid discs were fitted at the same time. They probably have less than 1000 miles on them but the rusted edges of the rotors are almost letting the side down! Can't justify changing them though, plus despite how it is turning out, it was never intended to be a garage queen/show car. It's going to still get used and dirty....... although not in the winter months now.

Once again, amazing attention to detail from Liberty Autoworks. They painted all of the hose brackets in a gold/bronze colour :-)

And that is the rear pretty much done, so on to the front.

New Zinram 200 cell e cat pipes have finally arrived. These will be sent off to be ceramic coated so they match the rest of the exhaust. New clutch/flywheel going in as well when the front sub-frame is replaced.

I have an almost new starter motor so that is another opportunist job whilst it is all apart.

That is nothing short of sensational work.. are you considering a professional body and component underseal or equivalent ?.

I might cover the whole underside in Bilt Hamber Dynax UC once it is all finished.

It's not going out in winter anymore so I might just leave it as is.

Will see what the restorer recommends.

The underseal they used on mine comes in different colours, I opted for Bronze and Clear, a combination of those would look immense.

Your RS4 is looking brand new RS4
Your brake discs don't look bad. To refurb them, use a rotating wire brush in your drill. They'll come up brand new.
If they are corroded inside, soak them in white vinegar for 24 hours and wire brush them afterwards.
RS4 B7, Mugello Blue, K&W V3 & HR ARBs, set up by Centre Gravity, Milltek Valved Non Res & cat bypass pipes, BMC air filter, braided hoses, DOT 5.1, Terraclean, MRC Full Carbon Clean, MRC remap 448PS 477NM, 20" S7 alloys with 4mm spacers & Hawke spigots 66.6 > 57.1, AP Racing front discs. That might be an option, looking at the rain we had today maybe underseal is a good idea!

Cheers, I still need to get around to fitting the lights I got from you..... my ones are terrible..... the projectors must be burnt out!

Will try that on the discs when I get the car back.
