Buckled wheels - how to check

Post by Iain_S4 » Thu Feb 24, 2011 2:47 pm

How do people check for buckled wheels? To the eye its not obvious and without the likes of a wheel balancing machine what do you do?

Just had 2 wheels off the wife's A6 refurbed and when I went to pick them up from the tyre fitters yesterday he pointed out that one of them had a slight buckle in it which explained the amount of wheel weights he had to use.

The wheel had been on the car up until refurb and no issues were apparent. It was previously fitted on the back and he advised that it should be again and not installed on the front.

Its a pain I've refurbed this wheel before finding out.

Also I bought a set of RS4 wheels and winter tyres of ebay which are on my car at the moment. One of those wheels has a surprising amount of balancing weights on but appears to drive ok. . . . now I maybe understand why.
