Depends what engine you have now?

BAM is the 225 version, same as TT

Here you go -

If you stand over the drivers wing and look towards the passenger side, the engine code is under the right hand side of the engine cover.

yes,
no point trying to buy a BAM engine if you are looking to rebuild it anyway. they go for almost twice the price! lots of other big port engines
is this being dropped into your existing S3 or another car? if the former and you have all the ancillaries and manifolds then you can buy ANY 1.8t.
your issue comes on how much work you want/plan to do on it and whether you want big or small port head, 19 or 20mm wrist pins, forged or cast crank.

if you are planning big power there are lots of parts of the stock engine you should look to replace anyway (rods, valves, springs for a start), pistons are bulletproof as is the crank, crank gear keyway is a weak point so look to get it dowelled/pinned.

BAM isn't a large port engine, its a small port.
The reason they sell for a good bit more than some of the other more common version of the 20vT engine is partly due to being fitted with a K04, larger injectors, lower compression etc, etc.
Just can't get the smile off my face......

well, what i am planning is a 400hp engine.
i am going to have ultimate performance do the head work and leave that up to them.
as for the block i am planning on steel con rods but if the std pistons are forged i will just get a new set (or maybe reconditioned set).
i am planning on a garret gt28rs turbo. i have one already on my R5 GTT which does very well.
As for the intercooler, i am planning on concocting something up. I will have a 3'' straight through system. ARP bolts and such likes. New bonnet with sufficient ducting and cooling vanes. Then upgrade the other bits like wheels and brakes.

i do want to thank everyone who has posted on this topic. thanks to JC for posting the graph.

cheers,
Jase
