Hi chaps,
Just doing a little research; has anyone heard of service to retro fit sunroofs?
Wife has an A4 avant. I'm pretty clued on what's involved... roof needing re-spraying etc, apart from the cost. But when you know you're never selling the car, its one of those things thats worth whatever its worth to the person.
Anyone even tackled it on a project?
Thoughts?

RE: Retro fit OE sunroof?
It can be done , You'll need to find a donor car , Then a body shop, A new roof skin fiting and painting. Then fit all the parts from the donor..
Ask ash 25... we did his for him.

hi mate got your pm...mrmule wrote:PM'ed you bro.
Well yes i have had this done on my B5 S4 by Grizz at unit 20 and the paint/bodyshop next door to grizz.
It all depends on how much you want a sunroof really......and unless you are basically stripping the car and getting other work done at the same time i would say its not worth it really as it would cost a fortune! when i did the widebody conversion the price of a good rs4 was above 15-17 grand and i really wanted to keep my saloon, so swapping to an rs4 wasnt really an option for me. BUT now that rs4's have come down in price, it would be much cheaper and probably a lot better to just sell your car and get either another s4 with a sunroof or go for an rs4 with a sunroof. its just not worth it costwise when you can get a whole car for so little money (well you know what i mean...s4's and rs4's are very good value now).
i had it done for much the same reasons as you have said in your other thread, but i only did it as i was having a widebody conversion done and found some parts second hand. as my car was pretty much in lots of pieces i thought i might as well go for the sunroof but even then it was damn expensive!
its also a LOT of work as the roofskin is spot welded or something? You would need a new sunroof and motor, sunroof controls, extra wiring to be done, roofskin, roof lining, and also the drains would need to be sorted as well. the new roof would also need to be painted. ebay is your friend as most parts can be found there, especially german ebay. BUT it is still costly and labour intensive.
Since i have had the sunroof put in it is much lighter in the car and i do love it (Still got it working yet though!) but i wouldnt do it as a mod on its own at all....its just too much work and expense.
new prices are massive....sunroof about £800, roofskin about £800? probably more, roof lining approx £200?, controls approx £90 or something like that? these prices are off the top of my head, and i didn't pay new for most stuff but you get the drift.....a LOT of cash for a small bit of heavy glass in your roof.
If i was you i would prob get a different car or make do without a sunroof!
or for £2000 get a cheap audi cabrio for the summer months......you then get a much bigger sunroof that way!
hope that helps mate, bear in mind all thats said is just my opinion. check out my widebody build thread on here somewhere or on audisrs.com for pics of some of the work.
Ash
