JBS TURBO PACKAGE

Post by s4marsh » Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:50 pm

has anyone had a good look at the jbs site? i was talking to a lad who has an r32 with gt35r turbo producing 500bhp and speaks very highly of them, anyway on the site it says to uprage the k03's to k04's the fitting time is 8 hours and cost £400 now that sounds really good but surely they must leave the engine in to have it back together and running in 8 hours? or can a good garage remove the engine upgrade the turbos and rebuild in that time? i know race and rally teams can but them cars are very different

Get them to give you a firm quotation on the work and hold them to it...simples! Won't matter how long it takes then, unless you want it back the same day......

Don't you want all the other stuff to go with the upgrade.....new clutch, maybe a LWFW, better intercoolers etc.

Maybe read the detail ... http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/categor ... em-upgrade

They keep refering to a 1.8t engine. No way they will pull the engine, upgrade 2 turbos and refit for the money you quote.

no nige have a look at this page with the 3 upgrade options http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/listing ... bo-hybrids
but i think the same as you its a mammouth task to do in 8 hours unless they leave the engine in...if you can do it that way i will do the upgrade myself but i dont have the room or equipment or skills to take the engine out i dont think

Aaaah, I see, that's just the labour cost! When I first read it, I thought that included the turbos too LOL! Maybe they don't understand the complexity of the S4 turbo swap - as above - get it in writing!

It is possible to replace them with the engine in - there is a post over on audiworld - someone in Poland did it by lifting the engine slightly with the loom still connected. Not sure it's ever been attempted in the UK though, even by MRC.

i've sent them an email tonight to get a proper quote from them for a hybrid set up and i found a local company that makes custom radiators and intercoolers and they reckon for the RS4 size and dimension intercoolers get this £460+vat and there work looks as good as any and full alloy construction which compared to all the others are a bargain

Expensive turbos! You must be having the full box of tricks with them then.
I reckon your spend is going to be closer to 7-8K all told!

i thought the turbo's were a bit on the steep side from jbs too but the fitting is very cheap so thats probably how they try juggle the numbers,i wonder if they would fit turbos i supplied for £400+vat? my main point to there website was that they can fit them in 8 hours so surely they must leave the engine in? i could handle 6-7k thats one months wage from the job i'm going on and then get a good paint job and thats me done i hope, but its all the little bits and bobs that i'm probably not aware of yet

You will need more than just a set of turbos to get good solid power though. Injectors are a must, so is a decent exhaust system. Finally, the most important element will be the remap - do JBS have a good track record with S4 / RS4's???? I've not come across many cars in the UK that they have fettled.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to leave the engine in if you are going to change the clutch - which you will want to really! I think it unlikely they will leave the engine in for a turbo swap but why not ask them! You'll be wanting injectors and decent fuel pump. As Nige says, to get the best from the money you are spending on Hybrids, decent downpipes and exhaust, new hoses and pipework, APR bibpipe, engine and tranny mounts, an oil cooler makes sense. Have you uprated the brakes? Plus the ECU map. Doesn't take long to blow 10K :D

yeah dazzer your right there about the clutch i suppose it all depends on who can provide the best price for a complete package,or if i can afford everything in one go, a lot of the mechanical conversion work i can do myself in my garage i have a small but wide pit i can use but not enough room to take the engine out really. i could just leave the car with mark hardy from stokesly when i'm away, thats who done my remap+boost controller and he done an excellent job 4 second fats time on k03's and he's done a few 600+bhp rs2 and 4s also i might aswell do the cambelt+pumps it was done at 42k it now has 67k while we're in there,Would you say i'm gonna need one of the big brembo brake options? cos i wanted to keep the standard wheels really or maybe b6 wheels i want it to look as standard as possible but brand new i'm working on all the little bits and peices my g/f is getting me an aquamist for my birthday i'm looking for rs4 downpipes now to gut the precats if anyone can help to keep costs down i wouldnt be surprised if all in all it costs 10k like you say but you know what its like i've been bitten really hard and i've caught the bhp bug...lol
