need to upgrade rear brake setup

Post by aposegil » Thu Feb 21, 2008 2:57 pm

Hello all

well I have succesfully fitted the front RS4 B5 discs calipers to my passat but I am now finding the braking unbalanced. Fronts will lock up under heavy breaking (abs saving me) and rears feel like they are doing nothing now.

At the moment I have 245mm discs on the rear (stnadard) but I was thinking of upgrading rears to rs4 or if I can get away with big A6 or A8 possibily s6/s8 setup I would.

has anyone had to upgrade there rears?

ok still looking for information

I found the RS4 rears are 312mm (max i can go) and very common setup across A6/A8 v8 lump and S6 and S8 is 269mm setup at the rear.

Does anyone else know what other setups out there?

2001 S8 is also 280mm rear. AP racing do a rear setup for the B5 RS4 but they are pretty huge I think.

see I would be happy with 280mm rear setup just got to find someone breaking a S8 lol

dont really want to go over 310mm (standard RS4) because that meant ill have to much at the rear and back end start locking up. At the mo i have the front locking up :(

damm so basically i have as standard as a normal S4 245mm at the rears

Just buy that bracket from over there means I can now run 300mm discs. But what discs are these off? Just standard B7 S4?

Or am I better of source parts of a S4 here becuase I assume handbrake cable and brake lines will need changing

Are you current rear brakes vented?

New brake lines will be required AFAIK but you should be able to shift the handbrake cable

mine are identical to S4 245x10mm

so at a guess its not vented so mean i will need caliper and carrier

Facelift S4 calipers are about 100 quid each from Vagparts
S8 280mm disks, carriers and pads will set you back about another 250
Not sure if your brakelines for handbrake are OK as you have the non-vented setup.

Seriously, speak to Doug@MRC. He'll be able to give you some options.
