B5 S4 and RS4 noise tests

Ash's and jimbos both have the resonated link pipes. These make a difference and get rid of the boominess in the cabin. The nocat DPs are louder but also deeper than the milltek or gutted stock. I thought both these cars were not overbearingly loud. I think the cars with 100 cell cats and non resonated link pipes are louder.

I think that video link is a miltek downpipe car with a single 3" catback so not really representative of the noise from the RS4 milltek.

time to get that dB meter to get a database of noise levels!

Ah, so it was neily's car with the 100cpi cats @ Thorney

That's a very good idea.

right:

S4 Nocat Milltek DPs, 3" catback s4 ko3 = 82.2dB (Chris_M)
RS4 no cats RS full exhaust(2 boxes) K16s = 94.4dB
S4 nocats full custom(smallish bore) k04 = 82.1dB (Dr_Wimpkins)
Renault Scenic - the Ash express = 81.3dB

more to come.
all done at 1 metre, 45 degree pointing at exhaust, held at 4500rpm - i htink this is the way CC measuret he static noise - when i get my car back today i can check to see how close i measure as i got 99dB nad 100dB on their tests.

chuck this into its own thread somewhere?

Mine was tested recently at Oulton Park.

Full Milltek with 100 cpi = 95db using above method, albeit 5,000rpm

i'll do another couple of cars at 5000 and see if there is a common fudge factor to get all these numbers correlated

resonated or non resonated Dave?

Maybe that's because you're a little hard of herring from that damn noisey exhaust of yours ;-)

He,he!
