It would be also be worth comparing the noise level inside the car say when cruising at say 85-90mph in 6th. That way we can establish which setups suffer more from the dreaded 'motorway drone'.

The drone is down to the frequency rather than the decibel level.

I do remember when i used to have precats and cats with milltek back box it was really drummy inside (really bad.....) . The day i had my precats gutted the boomy sound wasn't there, and now even less with no cats at all ( it is loud yeah, but not boomy!! ) I keep some ear plugs in the glove box for sensitive passengers...

All these figures are surely irrelevant as we really need to test once the car comes on boost. My car must exceed 110 on boost. Never heard anything this loud... makes bikes seem tame. I need a fix!! HELP...

I also really do think the motorway boom is interesting, the resonated systems, does this really help with the boom.

say S4, gutted RS4 pre, no cats and a full Miltek twin, what are we talking drone wise here? would the resonated help a real lot at cruse speeds.

I would like mine resonated. Not fitted the 2nd box yet... RS should have this next time I am up I want this fitted.

Can anyone show an image/explain diff between resonated and non-resonated. My car booms like mad... its terrible on A-Roads at lower speeds. Rear seats almost un-usable.

Tunnel blasts are absolutely insane!

ill have a go....

A resonator is just the most basic form of muffler, just an open chamber that contains a specific volume of air, no sound dampening material or frequency tuning like more complex muffler forms but is designed to cancel out certain frequencies of sound.

There's wave tuning, flow rates, and resonance/cancelation frequencies to be considered when designing it and how the various orders of sound frequencies produced contribute to the NVH in the car.

think a diagram might be a bit easier ill see if i can find out later!

is it not like a double skinned section, to keep the noise down?

Interesting, so it is totally custom to the exhaust. So RS Fabrications who created my custom exhaust are not likely to be able to design a resonator/it will cost a lot & be totally custom one off?
