MAF - Highest Resolution/Reading 3" MAF ??

Hi,

Next stage of upgrades on my RS6 will require higher flowing MAF's. What options if any are there for higher flowing MAF's with an OD of 3"?

Standard RS6 MAF Details:
OD - 3"
P/N - 06A 906 461 M (Housing)
P/N - F 00C 2G2 049 / 487 06 1C (Sensor)

I have considered B5 RS4 MAF's but they are 3.5" and would require massive work to physically fit, tune chanes are not an issue so I was hoping that the B5 RS4 sensor if higher flowing/reading could be used in the standard RS6 housing?

Thanks in advance

You may have considered this already, apologies if you have, but the ECU will need to be re-programmed to work with different maf's too.

i thought about this alot when i had my S4..if you didnt want to keep your OEM airbox then im sure you could use a 3inch or even bigger pipe with the maf sensor just bolted inline to measure air flow..
with a bigger inlet pipe (filtered of course) would the maf sensor still peak out at the same rate as the OEM housing..of because its bigger will it measure more airflow thus produce more power with the correct map tweak..

S4woody - Hi mate, i never like doing things the simple way LOL. I want to keep the airbox but from what your saying if I can fit a 3.5" pipe in place of the housings and use the sensors it will measure more airflow?

The US boys do this allot, maybe have a look on their forums?

They spent allot of time working out cross sectional areas of MAF housings and the relative size of injectors, thus you can keep the same program (with some tweaks) and have more air and fuel but keeping the flow rate the same as far as the ECU is concerned. No remap needed.

So the injectors are on for the same duration, and the MAF reading is the same - but more fuel and air.

Anyway I'm not saying you should do the same, if you can afford a remap then that is obviously more precise. Its just that because of this approach there is plenty of MAF information on the US sites.

Out of interest do the RS6s have Hitachi or Bosch MAFs?

tdiquattro - thanks, I would prefer do it properly with a tune but thanks anyway. The RS6 has Bosch MAF's
