I've heard the compound is slightly different between them - can anyone confirm this?

I've got RS6 pads on at the moment, but they've only lasted around 7k miles before the wear light has come on - quite happy with the performance, but not as good as my ECS stage IV setup on my previous S4.

Any recommendations? I need them to work from cold, no noises, squealing etc...

From what i've read on here, the RS4 compound is slightly softer than the '6, and is better suited to fast road use.

I guess you could try the '4 compound, but I don't think you'll expect a drastic improvement!

Doug recommends the RS4 pad over the RS6 version when fitted on a 4.

Nige, when you take the old pads out can you take a picture of them for me please? I'm interested to see how much the over hang the OEM B5 disc.

Mark, I've recently upgraded to B7 RS4 discs and had the overlap machined off the pads, so no can do - sorry.

For others comtemplating upgrading in stages, I was very happy with the OEM RS4 disc with RS6 caliper combo, especially for road use, but I got a deal on 2 x new B7 discs for £250, so it'd be crazy to turn them down.

b7 pads lasted 1 trip to the ring(16 laps) and back and were down to metal. That is good enough for me! i owuld prefer the pads to wear rather than the discs.

Am I correct in the asumption that the Rs4 B7 pad is made by Pagid - and i think I am - then Pagid do a selection of harder pads still with good cold braking but much better high temp braking and several ceramic types.

But have to agree with Doug, better to wear the pad than the brake so a little softer is the way to go.

I now have three sets of discs and two sets of pads for track use I use the harder ones that temp range is from 400 -700C and max out at 750C but cold days they need warming, make alot of noise and are as hard as hell on the disc.... but do stop the car..

I think still thats its a balance between all factors, stopping, noise and wear both on pads and disc.
