B5 vs B7 Rear Discs and Calipers

Post by Chubby » Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:13 pm

Can someone please tell me the differance in size of the rear disc on a B5 vs B7 Rs4 - and are they the same type of caliper.

have been looking for bigger rear brakes and the only one I have found are the AP Racing (sort of made to order) and Movit (pants down - arse smacked on price)

Would be interested to hear anyone views.

regards,

I know someone who has the B7 set up on the rear and cannot notice any difference at all..

I would leave the rears alone and maybe look at some uprated pads.

Just my 2p

If they are bigger they will make a differance, if only to stop the fronts working overtime - bigger the brakes the quicker they cool and better they will stop in theory - need better stopping power - perhaps it's time to get another car...

IIRC, the B5 rear discs are 312x22mm and the B7 ones 324x22mm, so not much bigger.

The calipers are quite different and the hub needs some modifying to accommodate.

Last but not least, they're not cheap!

Thanks CliveH,

When you say not cheap, AP Racings 343 x 26 mm and Movit 342 x 28mm are £2k + vat - these are sort of mid way so anything about £1K would be sensible...

Possibly,

You will find they are just over a grand, IIRC.

UMMMM i've had a good look at them , they are not true hand brake calipers as the cable works a plunger ,so the caliper is under pressure all the time . They even advise that the car should not the be left for long periods with it on eg over night !!!

ive got the B7 rear set up on mine. Mod required to rear hub and upright (enlarge hole from 10mm to 12mm). i dont really think its worth the bother really and the only reason i put them on is because i got the WHOLE set up for just over 500 quid.
