B7 brake conversion

Post by sherpa » Sat Nov 10, 2007 1:15 pm

Ive just bought new B7 discs, pads and calipers to replace the original front brakes on my B5 RS4.

My dad and i are doing the swap next weekend and just wondered if we need any other parts other than the above?

Think about what you plan to do with the brake hoses.

Some people say you can "stretch" them, but I just did mine yesterday, and I wouldn't want to stretch any brake hose! It's your brakes FFS! I used the other option of using RS6 brake hoses.

I also had to ever so slightly trim the back plate at the bottom, as the caliper was catching it again ever so slightly. Any tin snips will be appropriate for the job.

Also make sure you re-bleed them again after bedding them in, or using them, as they somehow accumulate air again! You'll see it when you open the bleeding nipple! I can't remember but you may need to adjust the hose bracket behind the caliper slightly

Apart from that its all straight forward. I guess your using B7 discs?

Might aswell change the brake fluid in the whole system while your at it.

Are they really beneficial for road use?

im sure i read somewhere that they help reduce the wear on the inside of the disc, whether that is true i dont know. And as for beneficial for road use, must be there for some reason on the phaeton as you dont see any on the track

Hmmm goind point!

Is there some sort of duct like this on the RS4/6? If not, then you'd more likely to see one of those on the track than a Phaeton!
